I used the SKC to access the ECU, and the same one for the IMMO.

I entered the code into the ECU first, then the IMMO.

Should I see some in channel 50 for sure??? the Audi is still mostly intact currently - so ECU and IMMO matched.

Right:

On the Touran IMMO:

On the Touran ECU:

15836916368_bef48d2890.jpg

A3 is still the same though!!!!! - If I try without entering the SKC, it says security access required in channel 50. Then I enter the code, go back in, and it says Channel 50 unavailable - like it did before. It has options for IMMO, Instruments and ECU, and I tried all of them - the Instruments one has an access code entry option for adaptation, but it's not the SKC PIN.

I went into measuring blocks to check 081:
15838587327_aba603d85b.jpg

Some things that may affect it?????: A3 is JDM (used japanese import), and I've had the battery disconnected, other than when I'm fiddling with it. I taken the ECU out a few times, and not started it since.

It's also gone back to saying "required time not elapsed", and "Seed not sent", which I had to leave the ignition on for 10 minutes yesterday to clear (it seems anyway - I had it on for ages, and it worked when I went back out there later).

A bit confusing really!

Ha... Groan...

I can't recode this ECU to manual from DSG it seems, so actually have to get a manual ECU from an R32, TT, A3 etc. Or reflash this one with manual transmission software at least. It doesn't accept a coding change in VCDS. I really want to know if the other models ECU's can be recoded to manual, or if it's an issue with the whole lot of them. Also, if they all use 5P08C3 EEPROM for settings. Either way, I have to do some fiddling with this one, or change it.

For the IMMO:

Channel 50 always says either of these: "security access required" if not logged in with the cade, or "error Channel 50 not available" when I *AM* logged in.

To get into channel 50, I tried logging in with the access code (it's currently set at 65387, hex: FF6B). I also logged in, and waited 10 minutes before accessing adaptations (I read on the web it worked for someone) and tried the same, waiting 20 minutes. I disassembled the key, and checked the IMMO was intact - it is - turning on the car with just the key blade brought up "SAFE" on the cluster and engine only ran for a second, so it's intact it seems. I tired with the cluster unplugged too.

Nothing I've tried allows me access so far, and I'm out of ideas. I suuppose I could try with the engine running, though I don't see why that would help...

I have the EEPROM dump (that's where I got the SKC code from) so in theory could manually alter the data, but I don't know that the IMMO4C ECU (if that's what it is) is going to be happy talking to an IMMO4A cluster anyway - I may have to IMMO off it (easy on this EEPROM) and flash it back - - -which I was going to yesterday, just for fun, but I can't write back to it while it's on the board it seems, so will have to de-solder it. Then cover the IMMO light on the Touran cluster.

Any other clever Ideas??? ;)

Personally, I'm all out of clever ideas.

If do find it interesting that these relatively modern ECUs still use a separate EEPROM chip instead of keeping sensitive data like that inside the processor, where it wouldn't be quite so straightforward to access and alter it using brute-force methods.

Well thats only good for us. :P

Actually the eeprom isn't that bad, as data inside processor is usually always cracked away. :)
What is weird is that it's unencrypted.

Wierd, I'm not getting instant notifications of replies anymore... :(

I have some 5P08C3's coming, so I can play a bit.

I may purchase a manual trans Golf 5 R32 ECU if I can find one, and check what's going on there. I Know they can be made to run stand alone, so the IMMO-Off idea should work at least... crossed fingers.

I found an early MK5 R32 (2006) DSG ECU locally, so I bought it ;) It also can't be coded to manual, though the guy I ogt it from has converted a 2012 Golf GTI from DSG to manual, and he left the ECU coding, but coded the other modules to manual (gateway etc), and it works fine - I'll see I guess.

and ECU + SKC + :vc =

16220068482_96f327f330_n.jpg

Channel 50 exists, and works, though it can't be adapted to the Audi (duh!). I have ECU wiring pigtails too, so can build a bench harness for flashing, or for temporary fitting of the ECU into the Touran wiring.

If I could find a cheap enough MED9.5.10 ECU, I could cut the socket off and build an adapter, even easier!

Great Success!

anyone know if mk4 and mk5 front axles are the same length (ECU supplier measured his, and they're basically the same), or if DSG and Manual axles are the same in the MK5? I know both the Touran Auto and the A3 DSG both use tripoid inner joints, but if I can use the A3 ones, or just change the inner joints, I'll be a happy man! The transmission I'm using is a MK4 2.8 VR6 6 speed 4motion one

Now... to find the next problem.

Allan.

As far as i know, the mk4 uses 02M type gearbox and mkv 02Q, it's advised to use 02Q because of the stronger case.
But for the 02M, you need to make a plug for speed sensor hole, or just leave it in :)

About the ECU, didn't many other type ECU-s use same plug, just different pinout.

Yeah... apparently, but the 02M supposedly has stronger gears... probably not an issue for us - mostly the car will be dropping the kids to the school bus, and Kindergarten - 2.0L just isn't enough for that though:D, and both types still have the shift fork issues I think. I'd probably NEVER find an 02Q over here, and the 02M was only NZ$450 - US$350.

Getting closer!

I think so, but I'm not 100% sure - I was trying to find the details of what ECUs are the same, and what other makes use the same plug, but it's tricky. It's 94 pin, I think from memory EDIT: It's a 94 pin, and a 60 Pin, making T154. I can always to it the old fashioned way... you know:

paper-clip.png

The pigtails I got for the ME7.1.1 are actually from an Audi A8 4.2 V8 I think.

Turns out I can just buy the MED9.5.10 ECU side connector from RS:

Uwe - are you happy for this to still be in the new member area, or should it really be in the support forum... the thread has morphed a bit!

Made up my adapter loom from the MED9.5.10 to ME7.1.1:
16135014459_a93890935a.jpg

I made sure to test it first on the original A3 ECU, in case the smoke got out... Though I was slightly concerned about the fire risk to the Touran :D

After success there, I plugged in the R32 Golf ECU, and succesfully communicated with it!

It only connects power/ignition, Earths, K-line and Can hi/lo, so obvioulsy it had a few errors.

I thought I'd be able to run the IMMO adaptation so the ECU would be paired to the Touran cluster... FAIL.

Do I need to have no DTC's to run it? Does the battery voltage have to be over 12.5 for it to even try?

I had a list of DTC's, plus the battery voltage ended up being 11.5, even with my little charger connected, because as soon as the imobiliser is activated, the brake lights all stay on.

Here is an autoscan with the R32 ECU fitted:

Uwe - are you happy for this to still be in the new member area, or should it really be in the support forum... the thread has morphed a bit!
I'll move it to Retrofits, 'cause you're clearly retrofitting stuff. :D

I thought I'd be able to run the IMMO adaptation so the ECU would be paired to the Touran cluster... FAIL.

Do I need to have no DTC's to run it?
Good question. We've never had much in the way of luck doing that on the bench, even with previous-generation (Mk.4/Immo-3) ECUs and Clusters.

Does the battery voltage have to be over 12.5 for it to even try?
That's always been VW's recommendation. It was in their early immo procedure documents. Whether any of the modules enforce it or not, I do not know.

Look at this autoscan which i found from web. It shows cluster 973. These were usually immo4c

That scan is from a 2007 model, I got the ECU from a 2006 model, because apparently they changed for 2007, during the 2006 model year - not sure if they changed at the model year change, but the Golf in a few months older than the Touran. That may not be correcty either, but I read it on the internet, so it must be true :D

I guess if I hook it up again, and this time take the screenshots I forgot, the IMMO id will give it away.

Hopefully it's something more simple. I can still IMMO off the R32 ECU I guess, or manually change the data in the EEPROM in the R32 ECU - it shouldn't be much harder than the IMMO off.

I assume the Comm errors are due to me fiddling, not because the modules can't communicate at all. When I was playing with the A3, sometimes It would have com errors, even when the ECU was conencted the whole time - I think going into "security access" may cause it.

I'll move it to Retrofits, 'cause you're clearly retrofitting stuff. :D

I thought you might want it moved, as we've gone away from the original topic really  I'm good at that!

I know the BMW software simply won't allow certain things to be done, unless the voltage is high enough - it just warns that the voltage is too low, tells you to connect a charger and aborts the programming.

I'm hoping that the issue with benchflashing is the same I'm having! I'm very wary of wiring the ECU into the Touran, and THEN finding I can't get them talking! I guess I'll have to document any wiring changes VERY well, in case I have to revert back to the 2.0 at some stage. I know the R32 has gone into a Caddy succesfully, but getting details is VERY difficult.

Thanks guys.

AS far as I've dealt with it, VDD clusters ending nr of 3 are 4C. When i was messing with my cluster, my old cluster was 863b(half screen), but it was from Visteon so the immo version was 4a.
Hoping that all 3 ending clusters are 4a i ordered 873b(full screen), but it wasn't. Indeed it was 4c and from VDD.
Knowing that i would of ordered 872, because i have tools for clusters ending in 0 to 2. Or ordered cluster with 4 ending, so I've wouldn't have errors with new mk6 climatronic.

VCDS doesn't currently do that. Most of our interfaces don't have the ability to read the car's system voltage. Of course, various modules do know the voltage, and could do that themselves. I'm not sure whether they actually do or not.

Yes, in principle VCDS could go rooting around and find what some module thinks the voltage is, but since there's no universal way to read it, doing that would be complicated, slow, and failure prone.

Mk60 pump 1K0 614 517 AD (number from controller) is for 4WD platform and Shot Code. You need DuoSensor present, but I believe you have it already if you have 1T car.
That pump also support HillHold assistance (need proper DuoSensor)
You can also install 1K0 614 517 AB for 4WD and NO HHI.
Engine - look Mk5 , because you can match IMMO , and all other things with it .
If you use Mk4 engine, you might have CAN communication issue, because this is different platform.

This is what I will recommend you to look .
Cluster , Gateway, ABS etc ..... need to see Engine in a Gateway network

Thanks Spacewalker ;)

I have access to the whole R32 2006 Golf. It's DSG though, and I only want manual! (I have a mk4 4motion 2.8 Golf 02M 6 speed). I don't know if that will cause me problems!

I think a good plan, is to get the engine and manual transmission in, THEN fit the 4wd later. Apparently the engine itself fits OK, because it's based on the same chassis, and it's been done in a caddy before.

I know the MK5 golf cluster doesn't fit quite right in the Touran dash, so it'd be nice to use the Touran one, but if it's too hard, I'll have to make the Golf one fit.

So I have the Golf R32 ECU: 022 906 032 CE Golf R32 DSG - maybe this can be used as is, or maybe can be reflashed as manual? I've seen a link to a TT3.2 trans change, and he purchased a manual ECU.

I have the A3 ABS pump/module: 1K0 907 379 E I know it does 4wd,but not sure if it's otherwise compatible. I have the A3 duosensor too - apparently the 4wd ones are different, but plug into the existing loom?

I can get the matching Cluster (and probably keys) from the same car, but not sure on Can gateway, ABS. There are two of them I have access to but not sure what parts are gone already.

Will it matter if they're DSG??? or if I have to change the ECU to a manual one????

Thanks heaps.
