Good god, the last 727 rolled off the assembly line in 1984 -- over 35 years ago! More than 1800 were built, but fewer than 50 remain in commercial service, and I believe those are all being used as freighters. They've fallen into disfavor because they exceed the allowable noise limits just about everywhere, they're fuel hogs, and they require a crew of three, which includes a flight engineer.
So I'm really not sure what the hell the FAA is trying to accomplish here.
