Cotswold-crash.jpg

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "Shortly after 10.30am today, we responded to reports of a light aircraft which appeared to have overshot the runway at Cotswold Airport, ending up in a ditch beside the A429. "
There were no reported deaths or serious injuries. The pilot and two passengers have been taken to hospital as a precaution.

A life-changing experience for the airplane occupants. Or at least an underwear-changing experience for them and the tower controller.

Are Whirlybirds allowed in here?

I do some work for our local rescue Helicopter organisation and got to use their flight simulator - built from a Tsunami damaged Sikorsky S–76.

It's NZ Civil Aviation Authority approved for certain Pilot flying hours too.

We went as a family: Myself, my Wife and 3 boys; 12,10 and nearly 8 and all had a turn.

Outside:

My Wife attempting her first landing:
Reminds me of:

On a scale of 1 to 10, what makes flying an aircraft difficult?
* Taking off: 2
* Flying (and not getting lost): 3
* Landing: 4
* Landing well enough you can use the aircraft again: 5
* Landing well enough that your passengers will fly with you again: 6
* Having the judgement and strength of character to say “I know I promised we'd fly there today, but the weather is bad so we're going to have to wait a day and miss that thing you wanted to go to”: 10

Those are my favourites!

I landed (with help) on the hospital I work at. Then took off from there and played around and landed a couple more times.

If we'd had more time, I wanted to fly back to the hospital and crash into it, for fun :D

@PetrolDave
Here's another that probably won't work for you as motivation to look into those "workarounds" I mentioned :D
@Uwe and other aircraft fanbois.... I actually saw its baby brother (124) earlier this year at our local airport during a takeoff to head south for a vacation... my wife was wondering what was wrong with me as I was trying to snap pictures of it with my phone during out taxi run. :facepalm:
I'll see if I can dig those pics up.

That's actually a world wide thing, we have 3 Volga-Dnepr AN-124 grounded at Leipzig Airport (LEJ), my son always points them out when we pass and chuckles because Putin's planes are still there and he ain't gonna get them back any time soon. If my recollection is correct, part of that grounding is because re-certification (for insurance etc.) can only be done by Antonov and they refuse to do so since the invasion started.

So unless the ownership changes, I doubt Antonov's position will change on the matter. 😂
