VW Caddy Life 2017: RCD330 Head Unit & Genuine VW Reverse Camera - No image on Screen

My factory fitted VW Composite Colour head unit wouldn't accept the genuine VW Rear View Lowline Camera that I fitted to the car, apparently only some versions of this head unit work with the camera and mine isn't one of them.

So, I bought an RCD330 Noname 187B version from China, recycled out of a new VW car. I wired the unit via a MIB-MQB quadlock adapter and fitted the blue plug with composite +/- camera input cables at ports 6 & 12 directly into the head unit in the quadlock. The head unit is coded for a RVC in the radio module. Unfortunately, I don't get an image on the screen when selecting reverse, only a message saying: The "Rear View" camera system is currently not available. The car has factory fitted OPS and the Park Pilot screen appears ok. I used VCDS to try changing the 'Visual Display for Park Assit' from 'OPS display' to 'Rearview camera' in Park Assist, UDS Adaptation, but had the message 'Request out of range'

I'm also getting fault codes in the Radio & CAN BUS modules which I didn't get with the original radio:

a) CAN BUS - 1 Fault Code 03158: Control Module for Information Electronics 1 (J794) 004: No signal/communication
b) RADIO - 1 Fault Code 02873: Control Module for Back-up Camera (J772) 004: No signal/communication

Is there a way to pair these two please?

First fix the can error with infotainment. Probably the wires are not properly seated to the adapter or something like that.

I thought the RCD330G did not need any adapters in older platforms as it was designed for PQxx platform cars anyway. It's not MQB.

Caddy 2017 is pq35/mqb crossover.

Its headunit needs new paramaters as Caddy parameters don't support RVC. Cc for example.

But the headunit is not the original he had, he got it from China.

So you mean that the original head unit would work just fine after parameterization? If that's the case I would go with golf_vendis suggestion and find someone who could re-parameterize the unit and throw the China RCD330G and adapter as far as the eye can see

I'm quite happy to offload the RCD330, as it doesn't really live up to my expectations.

Are you saying I could get RVC functionality on the original Composition Colour head unit by 're-parameterisation'? (Can confidently say I've never used that term before!) How do I go about this please?

I've not done it but if golf_vendi writes it's possible, then it is.

Just Google mqb module upload data and you'll find the info you need.

I'm not quite sure about Composition Color, but I've had success with parametering the Discover Media. In this particular case I also didn't have RVC image whatsoever. After loading CC parameters to it, it displayed image of RVC.

I'm not quite sure what is the difference between different model parameters(Tiguan/Sharan/CC/Caddy), so I'm not confident saying which parameters should be used.

Unfortunately there's not much we can do. VCDS is not able to change the parameters, you need to get other tools or someone with those tools who can help you. Authorized workshops are no go either.

I would be more than happy to try out the parameterization for you but unfortunately it's a bit of a stretch to Finland from UK
