It's taking ages to start the transporter van I have. As if it was starved of diesel. At first, I thought it was the fuel pump relays, but I bought a couple and swapped these about with no improvement. I noticed that the tank lift pump didn't seem to turn on when the ignition was turned on. I understand that it runs for several seconds. Also, the auxiliary fuel pump doesn't seem to work. I have checked both pumps and both work when 12v is fed to them. This also ruled out the wiring loom. I have also tested the amount of fuel each pump moves, and this seems normal. Also, cracked open an injector just to see if fuel is reaching these and all seems fine. I have bought a ross tech vcds to test and check live reading concerning the fuel system but from what I can see, it's all ok. Originally, I had several fault codes but when cleared, the vcds said that everything was ok with no faults. I am leaning to it being either the fuel stop valve (think this is what it's called) or the ECU. More ECU as the problems with the fuel pumps is a mystery. Any advice welcome. I'm running out of ideas. Thanks.

Some nice chap will come along and wrap it for you later. Now you need to run it for a few days with the fault reoccuring and then do a reread. One of the original codes suggested a poor battery.
Thank you to whoever 'wrapped' the fault codes above. Battery is new but it did need a little charging as it's getting drained with the long cranking to get the van started. I'll post in a few days' time if any fault codes appear. The van still takes ages to start but when it does it drives ok with no issues.

The van is now sorted, I think. It turned out to be sticky injectors when cold. I had two options, new injectors or injector cleaner. Injector cleaner sorted the problem. I think this was due to the van being stood a few years because of the covid con and the biodiesel in the fuel going off. Thanks for any help and good luck with your problems.
