Today's commute. I started out the door about an hour earlier than usual. From my house I drop down a hill, a twisty road marked 15mph and at this time of year (tar snakes, wet leaves, slush, man hole covers, etc) that's a good choice.
I had an odd feeling and then the bike behaved as if it were in neutral. Tried a couple of gears each way from neutral and they all behaved the same. Coasted to a stop at the bottom and thought my chain must have come off. Got off and looked and it was fine. Checked the gears again and nearly came to the conclusion that my transmission had eaten itself. Got out my flashlight and looked more carefully at the front sprocket. . The jesus nut had backed off and was trapped in a perfect spot by my high dollar Touratech sprocket cover. So much for the concept of Loctite working as well as hammering that metal tab over.
So I McGivered the job, had just enough tools to remove the sprocket cover and lever the sprocket back onto the splines and spin the washer and jesus nut back on. No ability to torque it, so I hopped on and rode back up to my house where I torqued the shit out of it and hammered two ears down to the flats on the nut.
So, in the middle of the whole thing, prior to getting the sprocket back on the splines I looked up and this was my view:
After torquing and using WD40 as a quick hand cleaner (couldn't resist), I went back down the hill and along Ruston Way.
You're looking East and that is Mt Rainier to the right in the image. It looms much larger as you head that direction but I had already burned up my "extra" hour so I didn't stop for more pics.
Edit: LG G3 phone.
