I have a 2016 Yeti 4x4 which has no rear wheel drive at all. The Haldex doesn't engage, just front wheel spinning and traction control lights flash when it should be active. It's a Gen 5 Haldex, so no filter to block.

There are no fault codes relevant to the Haldex unit, the pump is functional and clean, been bench tested with a battery pack and spins freely, I've exchanged the pump for a new one just to prove a point and situation remains the same.

I've logged pump voltage, PWM, amps with vcds on a launch on gravel and there's no voltage increase at the pump when the front wheels spin, all I get is maximum voltage of about 3v DC which cleary isn't enough to activate the clutch pack. I also have a Tiguan (same year, same engine, same Haldex unit, part numbers, software etc.) and doing a launch on the same gravel surface in this gives a voltage spike to about 8.5v DC and the Haldex kicks in fine.

It appears as though there's a lack of signal to the Haldex controller that the fronts are losing traction so it never calls for the rear Haldex pump to increase in speed.

Strange fault. Did this car had an accident and was repaired before?

Can you may copy here the Tiguan autoscan? Does it have the same AWD software version?

There is a software update available for the AWD ecu.

That's all via the powertrain CAN, and there's really only two places were it could come from, the ECU and/or the ABS.

Both ECUs are coded for AWD, which is as it should be.

However, I'm not sure about the MK60EC1 ABS in Yeti. Someone with better knowledge of that coding scheme than I have might check that for you, but I doubt it's there either, since I'd expect some sort of coding mismatch DTCs if the ABS didn't match the ECU.

In the end, I'm not keen on the theory that the Hadlex isn't being told to do its job.

I would say from your log pictures, the yeti also tries to engaging, only the signal amplitude is lower. So it's receiving the necessary data from the can network. It's unlikely the controller is bad, or anything coding related.

I'm not familiar with these latest AWD system's,but it's possible the controller feedbacking from the wheel speed signals, what's happening while engaging rear drive, so if nothing happens, doesn't increase the engaging pressure.

I heard some nasty things from late haldex units, which they had to replace under warranty with very low mileage. I don't know with what symptons, but they was internal mechanically damaged.

Most Haldex failures have been due to there being no filter on the Gen 5 Hadex units I think. The pump clogs up rather than the filter, pump burns out, and so on.

As regards the Haldex not getting feedback, it never gets enough voltage to engage the pump to lock the clutch pack so unlikely to be a feedback problem I think.

Did you checked the power and ground on the haldex ecu connector? I mean the gnd wire resistant to chassis, power wire preferably under load.

Yes, those readings are all pump related.

I've not checked any wires to the controller, they'reall as factory at the moment so sheathed.

Are you sure? N373 clutch control valve is controlled by a PWM signal at least in 4gen units. The current if it's the pump current, flowing, so something moving or heating up.

Can you may post a measuring channel CSV from that AWD ecu, made on igniton?

Yes, I see, but they have to know if the increased pressure did something or not. The 0 bar current is more than 1000mA in these system as i read it now.

I do see your pump consuming current in the yeti, reacting to the first torque request, pump current increase in a step. It's hard to analyze what's happening in your logs, we need more data, and possible more channel.

I don't know if you did the same starting in both tests, if yes, in the yeti graph you can see after the first step increase in voltage, the ECU tries to increase it more, but something on the feedback side not right, and almost dropping it to zero.

I'm guessing they feed backing from the abs speed sensors, and from simulated current slope datas, etc.

Why there are no fault codes? welcome to the new age.


If you can do a log with more channel, use all of 12, a simple launch on gravel, and use turbo function and uds request (it may be not available in a yeti), we will see more.

I'm guessing the first step, when you put the car in drive, and the AWD ecu pretension the clutch pack, with little increase in pressure.

Okay, all fixed. How it all got mixed up and not working I don't know, it was like this when I bought it.

The fix was (using VCDS of course)

Start the engine.

1. Open Controller 22 - AWD
2. Open Basic Settings - 04
3. In Basic Settings use the drop down selection box to select "MAS02928 - Pump Motor"
4. Hit "Go" and let it run. Took a minute or so, during which time I could hear the Haldex pump cycling up and down and relearning its function.

After a while the Pump Basic Setting function "Finished Correctly", and everything started to work properly.

Just want to make people aware I am always happy to help with Haldex issues on VW/Audi group vehicles, and have done nothing but Haldex for about 6 years now.

Hello....

I Just wanted to add to this thread that You seem to have low SW version. This Haldex unit has at least 7540 software available that fixes no rear wheel drive issue on similar VW Models.
