auto-scan segment above.

note that the measured soot is reasonable, while calculated soot is above spec.

car was rebuilt for some body damage. owner is chasing down possible boost leak

in order to reset the calculated soot mass, should http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/2.0L_CR_TDI work?

Adaptation of Carbon Mass (after DPF Replacement)

Prerequisites:

Ignition ON
Engine OFF

[Security Access -16]
Enter the code shown in the VCDS pop-up balloon for "Adaptation Enabling"
[Do It!]
[Adaptation - 10]
From the pulldown menu, select the entry for "Carbon Mass (DPF Replacement)" or "Particle filter initialization".
Save a new value of 1 to reset the learned Carbon Mass. It's normal for that value to automatically change to 0 after it has been successfully saved. Check and clear fault codes to make sure none are present.

Thanks for the reply, Jack,

do you mean the ross-tech interface needs an update, or the ECU?

(and for us less-informed...how did you figure this out?)

He means the ECU.

TSB above addresses DPF problems on 2015 TDIs which need a software update.

QUOTE:
Fault Code--- Fault Description

P2463--- Diesel Particulate Filter Soot Accumulation
P2458--- Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration Duration

Note:
DO NOT diagnose or replace components due to DPF faults before performing the update function as explained
in this bulletin.

Thanks again.

That's why JPPSG!

Yes it is so important to install the nefarious update, & circumvent the MIL by allowing for the soot accumulation.

Just imagine if it ran even more rich, & to lower the NOX requiring much more soot remediation and regeneration procedures performed.

So it turns out the fella got a dealer update, and his calculated soot is still at 60.

he says they ran a dealer initiated regeneration, but this does not make sense to me.

I thought the ECU would not run a DPF active regeneration cycle if the soot is over 45 grams (for fear of fire or other damage) (even when the measured soot is very low)

Yeah Mike,

Per our latest ASAM Dataset [*IDE07903*] Adaptation of ash mass is the only DPF related Adaptation or Basic Settings function I see for this EDC. I'd go with that.

We tweaked the Wiki process a while ago to generalize both CAN and UDS but we may need to revisit that since newer versions of VCDS show standardized IDEs.

After some digging into the latest files I have on hand:

A majority of UDS protocol TDI engines use Adaptation channel [*IDE00275*] Particle filter initialization.
2,369 files to be exact but the search results were not limited to 2.0L TDIs. The only 04L series controller file I located (04L 907 309 B | EV_ECM20TDI04L907309B.ROD) is a hardware number for a few RoW market modules that had software updates per a TPI so that sounds like a special case.

My search results for [*IDE07903*] Adaptation of ash mass resulted in 1,185 files but I didn't go through all of them to see how many included [*IDE00275*] as well.

In conclusion I'll edit the 2.0L CR TDI, Adaptation of Carbon Mass (after DPF Replacement) section to include both IDEs with a note to look for IDE00275 first.

I have a 2019 MAN TGE which has the exact same issue, calculated soot is 46 where as the measures is 4 but there is no pop up for the security access code for 01 - Engine for me to do an Ash Mass Adaptation, does anyone have the code they can send to me?

Thanks

I know this Is an old thread but I wanted to post this in case it helps somebody like me. I had the glow plug light start flashing along with the check engine light one morning. I didn't have time to mess with it at the time but I also thought it was just a glow plug issue not k owing the flashing glow plug light along with check engine meant something other than a glow plug. I drove it fine for a couple days. I then had to take my kids back to FL. On the way down my dpf light came on. I had no choice but to keep going so far from home, 5hrs. Then it went I to limp mode. I made it home finally and read the codes. It showed a p02463 and p0101 for maf sensor. Well come to find out a mouse chewed a wire in two for the maf. Got that fixed but could not get a regen started because it read a 60g soot calculated. Showing like the dpf needed replaced. I knew better as it had only been 15000mi since replaced and I drive long drives daily. So I finally tried the adaptation to replace dpf and it worked. The engine light went out but dpf light stayed on for another day then went off. I am now running good.
