Battery Adaptation for A3/S3 (8V) Problem

I just changed my battery from the factory provided EFB to a Varta AGM one. I was able to change the following 2 Battery adaptations:

channel IDE03256-MAS06105-Battery adaptation-Rated battery capacity, from 69Ah to 70Ah
channel IDE03256-MAS06106-Battery adaptation-Battery technology, from EFB to Binary - AGM

however, I got the "Request out of range" error when trying to change the Battery Manufacturer adaptation.
The factory battery is made by Banner and the old value is BA2. I tried changing it to VA0 but was unsuccessful.

Last but not least, as I didn't get the battery from Audi, it did not come with the BEM Code sticker. As such, there is no 11 digits serial number on the new Varta battery. Is it important to change the Battery Serial Number adaptation?

Yes, it seems that changing the serial number is what tells the system that there's a new battery.

If you don't have a real serial number, just change the last digit on the existing serial number.

Since you haven't told us what version of VCDS you were using, much less posted an Auto-Scan, we don't have enough info to even begin looking whether this is a problem with VCDS.

I have nothing beyond some speculation at this point. Perhaps there are serial number ranges assigned to the different manufacturers and module does a plausibility check whether the serial number of the battery belongs to that manufacturer?

RS200Z: Hi . I have admaps from the CAN Gatway of numerous "5Q0" vehicles in my database from around the world (Europe, Australia, USA). Whilst the settings for the battery channels related to capacity and construction-type vary, without exception, they all contain the factory settings below:

(3)-Battery adaptation-Battery manufacturer JCB
(4)-Battery adaptation-Battery Serial Number 1111111111

Now, there is much about which I am ignorant when it comes to how the boffins at VW set the values for adaptation channel on MQB model vehicles. But my hypothesis based on the observations above (i.e the fact that whist the settings for battery capacity and construction-type differ, the settings for battery manufacturer and battery serial number don't change) is that it doesn't matter what two settings are applied to the two channels above. I'm more than happy to be corrected in my thinking (always willing to learn), but if anyone has an alternative theory please explain how it complies with my observations above!

So, I suspect that Uwe is correct in his advice (nothing surprising about that - I agree) - leave the manufacturer setting as is and change the last digit of the serial number to 0 to tell the CAN gateway that there has been a battery change.
