hi folks just bought a ross tech lead after mucking about with bluetooth units for a few years. i have bought a 2003 tdi multitronic a4 (uk car) thats having gearbox issues (surprise surprise ) i have no service history with it but once communicating will oil and filter change the box.
my lead is not having any luck in communicating with the gearbox at all and this inability to talk to the tcu is causing a multitude of faults with various systems. i have found the ecu that is under the scuttle panel on left hand side of the car appears dry but the relays underneath it were all wet as was the wiring.
i have removed the relays and took the covers off them to make sure there is no internal damage to them and have allowed them to dry out.
i am going to look for the fuse for the tcu (in the passenger side fuse panel ? if i am correct )
any other suggestions of what to look for and or ideas would be greatly appreciated and i have included what vcds fault sheet some of these might clear easily as the battery was dead due to fan sometimes coming on when car locked ?
other than that the cars great and once these electrical faults are dealt with will be nice car as body work etc etc all good

Given that both the ECU and the ABS module both have faults stating that they can't talk to the TCU either, I'd say chances are good that the TCU is out to lunch. Whether that's due to an internal fault in the 13 year old TCU or some external problem such as lack of power or wiring issues is rather difficult to ascertain remotely, but I'm reasonably confident it isn't a fault with VCDS or your HEX+CAN interface. ;)

I would indeed go through and clear fault codes in every module, then cycle the key, start the car, and see what comes back.

On the 01J Multitronic, the TCU is is part of the "Mechatronic" bolted right into the transmission.

Other thing I have read is one of the 4 relays that are in scuttle panel and got wet is for the ecu so will check it's operation as that might not allow power to the ecu

what i have also discovered is the prds lights are not on at the dash so this might be that the ecu side of things is not getting powered up does anyone know where i can get wiring diagrams for these cars.
i have opened the relay 219 (due to the area getting wet) and cleaned all the contacts and tried on a battery to make sure its working will clean all the spade connections and see if the unit gets power now but failing that i will have to trace the wiring

could the engine ecu coding being at 000001 be an issue ?
