Alright, well I am still at it.

Here are of the things that I have tried so far and then here is a fresh auto scan...

Originally I purchased this car and it would start, run for 30 seconds & die. Replaced both fuel pumps and fixed this problem.

Then my wife was driving it & all electrical shut off and so did the car. Pulled over & towed home.

Then a few intermittent starts, but died shortly after. Never to start again.

YES CRANK BUT NO START.

WHAT I HAVE TRIED:

1) New Fuel Pumps
2) New battery
3) Bench test ECU/PCM: found in good working order. no fault to grounds.
4) Pulled up drivers carpet & inspected drivers footwell wiring for corrosion. Found minor & cut and re-spliced connections.
5) Checked 404 relay under passenger side hood relay box, working

What I'm doing today:
Checking the electrical grounds under the hood.

Questions: Is there anything that I am missing or is there a way to track down all of the listed fault to ground and intermittent faults?

Thanks as always for the help and my fight continues!!!

ps. I didn't know how to link this to the old thread and also post a new auto scan.

I don't think it would crank if this were the Kessy's fault.

All those Short to Ground codes make me thing there's no 12V on the hot side of those actuators. Blown fuse or relay not passing power to them.

Usually not intermittent though when fuse is blown but corrosion in fuse box or Kessy from water is likely maybe bad E415 possible too.

Hi Jack & Ewe,

Thank you for your replies. One bit of good info that I can supply is that when I purchased the car the under hood drivers side electrical box (with all of the relays) was escew & had standing water. I dried it out with a shop vac & fan in my garage.

Could corrosion in the electrical box be causing all of these faults? Should I start by removing/replacing the electrical box or all of the relays?

Question: I am not sure if the car has a kessy system. Do all Touareg's have Kessy if not then how do I check?

Jack, you said..."Kessy needs to be fixed for terminal 15/30 and Fuel Pump Relay or you are not going anywhere?"

Do you mean to check that the Kessy works (if I have one) in order for terminal 15/30 & the fuel pump relay to work? The reason that I ask is because I have tested the 404 Fuel pump relay & it works fine, but the fuel pumps do not prime when I open the drivers door as they should. If I provide direct power to the pumps themselves they both work fine.

Thank you as always for the help. I am trying everything that I can think of.

Hi Jack,

I get it...

So here is my plan. I will start by checking the Kessy and visually inspect the electrical box on the drivers side plenum (after I have removed all of the fuses/relays). The I will use my multi-meter to make sure that all of the relays are working.

Does this sound like the correct line of attach?

Jack, How do you check for a bad E415? Does this mean that the cars security immobilizer is not recognizing the key?

I plan on trying all of these solutions tonight/every night this week after work.

Dave

The fish tank can't be cleaned or inspected properly until it's empty, huh?

Did you clear codes in 0x05 and see if they come back & after all needed inputs are verified present by load light isolated and that VCDS blocks show key or transponder status by antenna or D2 are present with proper E415 function using RTFB and WD by basic electrical troubleshooting skills?

2004 TOUAREG V6 3.2L YES CRANKS BUT NO START

Down below is the latest auto scan from my Touareg.

Still has some of the "short to ground" or "open circuit" faults.

Just yesterday I replaced the 433 relay under the drivers seat (the thinking being that because of all of the electrical faults/ground shorts) that possibly this relay going bad could have been effecting the other things further down stream (not sure if this logic is correct).

The Treg still will crank but not start. When I first put the key in the ignition the dash lights up as normal, but it will not even crank if I turn it right away. If I wait for approx 15 sec the EPC light will come on and then I can crank the car...but no start ever.

I was thinking about replacing the J519 Power Control Module (its on the side of the electrical cluster behind the steering wheel, by the drivers knees) in the hopes that this is what is at fault for all my electrical worries.

Or should I be looking elswhere?

Thoughts???

Here's the scan...Thanks again. Dave

You still have all those "Short to Ground" codes. Those things are low-side switched. That means they should have 12V on one side and the ECU pulls the other side to GND to turn those things on. Dig into your wiring diagrams and figure out why there's no +12V on the other side.

Check fuses & Unplug the shorted OXS sensors yet and verify the ECU supply relay yet to power up terminal 30 using WD in RTFB?

Good morning,

I got out my handy electrical tester over the weekend and found out that the bottom two fuses on both the drivers & passenger side cabin fuse boxes is out. (see attached) From the repair manual I CANT see what these fuses do, but I do know that they are not energized. All of the fuses on the drivers & passenger panels that do not work are the horizontal fuses at the very bottom of the panel. 4 total (2 drivers & 2 passenger). ***SORRY TRIED TO LOAD PICS BUT COULDN'T***

Also, on the hood plenum fuse box the #17 & #18 fuses are not powered and also #7-#12 fuses are all NOT POWERED.

Is there a relay other other item that could be causing these fuses to not get any power (and hopefully causing my no-start)?

Staying at it and trying to track this thing down!!! I am hoping that this new info will narrow it down enough...my wife really is excited to get her T-Reg back.

Thanks Dave

***How do I get permission to upload Pictures to this and other threads???***

I printed and highlighted copies of the fuse box diagram from my manual (to illustrate the fuses that are not getting power) but I CANT figure out how to post the pics.

Thanks again and I am getting really excited that I am getting close to figuring out why this Touareg will not start :)

Good morning Jack,

What do you think of the un-powered fuses that I have found?

Does this seem like the source of my troubles?

Where would I found the OXS sensors that you mentioned? I believe that I already replaced the ECU supply relay (located in the hood plenum electrical box).

Per that How To Post Pictures thread, you firstly need to upload the photos to a host such as imgur, google photos, microsoft drive or similar. After doing so the url (link to those photos) can be posted here.

Regarding the power/fuses. There where 2 possible Engine diagrams so I went with the later: #48/1 labeled 3.2L - Engine - Motronic Multiport Fuel Injection (MFI) / 162 kW, code BAA from November 2003

I started by looking at that 17069/P0685 DTC which quickly lead me to components such as:
  • J271 - Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) Power Supply Relay
  • J670 - Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) Power Supply Relay 2
  • D50 - plus connection (30), in engine compartment wiring harness
.. which receive power from S15 - Fuse, in engine compartment (in E - box , air plenum, left). That should be easy enough, or so I thought, to determine where the upstream power comes from to feed fuses such as S2, S13, S14, S15, S16. Wrong, I hit a dead end at splice point: D75 - plus connection -2- (30), in engine compartment wiring harness

Before heading off on the wrong track (unnecessary hunt for D75 power source) please let us know if you have power to those fuses (or not). Your photos may shed light after you get them posted.

Additionally, S7, S8, S9 and S10 are all powered by J271 so let us know what voltage measurements you have at that relay.

OK,

So last night I pulled both of the relays (#53 & #167) from the A1 & A3 slots from the engine/plenum fuse box. Both of the relays have been replaced and are functioning properly.

I confirmed with my multi-meter that the fuse box slots where the relays plug into are also energized and are receiving power.

I still have no power to any of the fuses that I have highlighted in red.
