Greetings All. I am new here so hopefully I am posting in the correct place.

I just purchased the HEX-V2 and installed VCDS 17.1.3 (with data version: 20170320 DS267.7) and I updated the firmware on the V2. I am missing the label for 19: CAN Gateway. As per Peter Schumacher's email support, I performed the mapping procedures found at http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Control_Module_Maps and emailed them to support, along with logs and most recent autoscan. I am now waiting for Ross-Tech to respond, but thought it would be useful in case others have the same missing module. Also, wonder if any "regular" members have any insights...

Below is my original autoscan (The data version is one generation older than the most current but the result is the same...:

Lovely. Virtual Gateway that's actually in the BCM...

Looks like there's a German version of that file, not yet translated.

Greetings Uwe. Quite surprised by your quick reply. I am new to VW, Ross-Tech, and VCDS, but I am in IT and a pretty quick study. From your many responses around the forum I get the sense that you are quite the personality and the creator of VCDS. You are the wizard behind the curtain? So far I am quite impressed with the V2 interface, VCDS, and the large active community you have built around your products.

I must say I am a bit unsure of what to make of your reply. Perhaps if we spent an hour over a pint I would have a better read!

Please correct me if I am wrong...but...I am presuming it is
A) Negative that the module is virtual?
B) Positive that there appears to be a German version of the file?
C) Neutral in that there is no way to know if/when it will be translated to NAR?
Would my presumptions be correct?

It's absolutely not negative that this is a virtual module, standard Polo-platform electronics for the simple reason that it saves the manufacturer money. As far as the label file is concerned, the English version was done but hadn't been included in the last data version due to a mistake on my end. This will be fixed in the next update/data version.

Roady900: Hi - Yes indeed, he is the wizard behind the curtain - the puppet master who controls the marionette strings - the Benevolent Dictator supremo (albeit I secretly suspect that there is a disconnect between his bark and his bite). But enough of hagiography - I'm by no means an expert on your particular vehicle (hell, I'm not an expert on any particular vehicle), but if you look at your auto-scan and in particular, you note the part numbers for the Body Control Module (the module @ address hex09) and the Gateway - you see the following:

Code:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 09: Cent. Elect. (J519) Labels: 7E0-937-BCM-V1.clb
   Part No SW: 7E0 937 189 HW: 7E0 937 189
   Component: BCM PQ25 MMI3 H80 0733

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 19: CAN Gateway (J533) Labels: None
   Part No SW: 7E0 909 901 HW: 7E0 937 189
   Component: GW-K-CAN TP20 H80 0733

So- both these module have the same hardware number - this tells him that the CAN Gateway is embedded into the BCM and hence Uwe's declaration "Virtual Gateway that's actually in the BCM..." I'm fairly certain that the Jetta thieved this arrangement from the 2010 Polo and the T5 (2010 as well?)

The rest is as Sebastian says - Sebastian lodged his post as I was mid way through mine - apology Sebastian:D

You are the wizard behind the curtain?
Well, I'm the guy who started this thing 17 years ago. But I've turned over most of the wands and cauldrons to some of the fine folks that were attracted by the early spells I cast myself. :)

A) Negative that the module is virtual?
I think it's negative because that makes it more difficult to upgrade it to a better/newer one at some point down the road.

Great news! I have seen in other threads that sometimes you provide a label file for a user to manually dump in the labels folder. Might that be an option for me? I noticed the last data version was released on 20170320 and the previous version was 20170220 (Exactly one month). Is that standard practice or just coincidence?

Hi Don.
Thank you for the information. Now I know to look out for this (future VW's etc). I guess this means that if a dealer were to update the bcm it could effect adaptations/coding of subsystems tied to it? Changed my Avatar. Hope it is to Uwe's liking.

That's a great point. Although, my initial intent is not to get too crazy. If able, I want to add a traction control button kit. I am trying to get USP Motorsports to send a kit at a reduced price. They have it marked as not compatible with the 1.4T, but only because it has not been tested. I know coding will need to be done in the ABS module and have seen many threads/posts. If I have questions for other forum members about it is it better to post in the Tweaks section or the Retrofit section?

Hi Don.
Changed my Avatar. Hope it is to Uwe's liking.

Ahrrr......... yes - the aptly named President (Merkin Muffley) and his faithful Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-staff!

Just remember to give the same advice as in the movie to the Benevolent Dictator if he ever considers a nuclear attack on Russia (incidentally, I expect to see such a proposal discussed in-depth on Advise on Weaponry thread long before implementation):

In response to the President's suggestion that a second nuclear strike on the Soviet Union isn't war, General Buck Turgidson deftly replies citing projected American casualties, "Mr. President, I'm not saying we wouldn't get our hair mussed. But I do say no more than ten to twenty million killed, tops. Uh, depending on the breaks."
