your attitude stinks!

I don't have the resources to check these things on etka and the main dealer tells me the module is correct. I can only take this at face value!

I come here asking for help and all your interested in is being an arse banging on about it being a retrofit. As far as I'm aware it's not a retrofiit as the car was bought like this, but your telling me it is.

So instead of being awkward pointing out things that isn't resolving the issue

This is not meant to be argumentative, nor not help or make you feel stupid.

I will not deviate from my path of the JPPSG, nor known good diagnostic practices I have acquired for 35 years of experience........
Look at it like this ...........it's kind of like when Maverick leaves his wing man, and Goose dies in Top Gun.
Do you really need that life lesson?

Until you recognize that the part numbers are wrong by Jef and me.........we both verified what we thought was the problem for misapplication here...... and substantiated it.

This is a retrofit and should be taken to that section, because it is not a repair.

When you are ready to repair it correctly I'm sure RT or I will try and help you further.

I will not help you, nor do I expect people to help in this section for "REPAIR" to alter a configuration for a retrofit, especially when I know the correct parts are available to repair the vehicle.

Ask yourself why you fail an inspection here & for a vehicle which is being used to provide public services or by your own admission/government.

I'm sorry I just don't see your point here, nor hostility.

All joking around ceased........fix the car correctly as per the etka, dealer verification, parts link like Jef stated, and by the repair manual guidelines at Erwin.

Even guys in retrofits understand the power of crossing stuff by using good information guidelines. this forum section is not a circumvention point for you to bifurcate that process in either section either.

You must realize you are here because you don't know what you are doing right?
When you don't accept the good information guidelines with true intent to help you, time already spent, this is very insulting to the entire forum.

I will not bother you further, and defer you to the great powers at RT.

Have fun.........hope you enjoy your holidays and good luck with your RETROFIT!

It's not an "intentional" retrofit.

The OP claims the car was purchased with that part already installed and he'd like to fix it, which is why I've left it in Repair.

Understood just checking.......due to liability concerns.
Should intention have to do with repair procedure, when the correct parts are available for the car or when being used for public use to provide a service?
Here DOT regulations are more scrutinized for commercial applications, not so sure about the backward UK........ that's why this place was made.
I'm all for trying something when situations arise where information or compatibility is suppressed by the OEM, & in order to force a customer to the dealer such as ABS long coding.
I also appreciate saving money..........

:p
Okay am onboard now..........after my stupid rant sorry if I sound cautious.......it's because I am........ since I'm not in the UK.
How about the customer code out or swap the instrument cluster possibly or use later gateway?

0x01 is coded for stick....
0x03 No DTC and checks out but wrong part.
0x17 is most likely tampered or maybe just plain faulty from FOD........it does have a DTC.....!
0x53 wrong part.

3C0 920 960 HX INDEX Z02 and I find no listing for the 3C0 cluster which is in the scan, nor in kind auto-scans on the net.
3C0 614 109 A ( 15653 ) FOD> 3C0 614 109 D ( Coding: 0001282 )

1 Fault Found:
00003 - Control Module
014 - Defective
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 01101110
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 255
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2013.09.09
Time: 00:00:05

I would unplug the cluster and the ABS while erasing DTC's in the 0x53 to see if fault will vacate.
Do this to check what is sending a network message, because I don't expect him to have a CAN-analyzer, being he doesn't even have basics to proceed properly.

Okay sir.......
There are a few inputs and links direct from the cluster J285 to the J540 including some shared fuses........better have a look in WD.

Very good that is what should happen when ABS is unplugged, because the ABS has the J540 piggy backed to the ABS via CAN.

Additionally WD revels an important ground point & which maybe missing in your inherited retrofit as detailed below.

Please investigate it.......& the aforementioned cluster in post #27.

Taxi Taxi!................Did you fix it?

Not yet, went to order the module number you suggested for the parking brake, guy asked for the vin number and tells me that the number you supplied is wrong, the one fitted is correct.

Looking back I see the details you posted has the car as a 2006 production year but the car is a 2008 meaning the part fitted should be correct if it's listed for 2008- vehicles?

Im kind of at a loss and don't want my father in law to just throw money/parts at it in hope it fixes the issue.

Is your vin accurate to the data plate correlated to the scan?

That VIN according to what I see says it's an 06........

Please provide a picture of the data pate and production date tag in door jam.

The instrument cluster isn't even a valid part # and you do realize it's in error right?

Things don't add up here.........

I'll grab some pictures tomorrow, yeah I realise the instrument panel is showing a fault but not sure if it's related to the problem I'm trying to fix.

I'm pretty confused, I've been into vags for numerous years and can normally solve problems like this easily and quickly but this one has me clueless which is why it has taken me to this forum seeking help

Yeah.......... something tells me you should find a competent dealer if what you aforementioned is true & that knows how to use the ETKA.

Do you realize its the wrong part # and the part # is FOD entirely not in the STAMM?

You should consider the use of parts link and RTFB the Erwin.

You are being fed bad information and it isn't here.

I realize it must be frustrating having to ask for help and thinking you are dealing with people elsewhere you must of at some point trusted.

I accept your prior criticism and new tone as a capitulation to the fact going forward.

Signed the asshole only trying to help you ...........NostraJackAss Has Spoken!

That's the chassis number shown at the windscreen and in the door shut.

So presumably someone's changed the engine ecu causing the auto scan to bring up a completely different chassis number?

This is why JPPSG..........
Wow this car is just full of ripple FOD............ ...........Maybe have some while watching Sanford & Son!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tklXMfE9piY

https://www.google.com/search?q=rip...EwiT6P2Z0uTQAhUP5GMKHSZkDQ8Q_AUIBygC&dpr=0.95

This still doesn't change the fact that the cluster is way wrong and in error........

RTFB WD and check the tracks I aforementioned 0x17 to 0x53 + try unplugging engine ecu and cluster to see if fault goes bye bye in 0x53.

It's never just the ECU that has the VIN...

In any case, discrepancies like this should be noted from the get-go, otherwise people try to help you on the basis that the car is what the VIN shown in the scan claims it is and should have components installed that are suitable for that VIN!

I didn't realise the Vin was wrong in the scan, I thought the car was a 2006 model but wasn't till my father in law told me it was a 2008 the penny dropped
