Malfunction 0010 in Central Electronic module but no fault code indicated

Got mt Ross-tech cable out and did a scan, found a bunch of fault codes. Cleared each one, did a new scan after a day or two of driving. All fault codes gone but Central Electronics module (09) shows "Malfunction 0010" in the summary list but "No Fault codes" in the detail listing. Should I be worried about this? There were no fault codes listed for 09 in any previous autoscan.

Before I tried recoding the GW, I'd go into 09 directly and clear faults there; then go into 19 directly and clear faults. If that doesn't work, then try recoding the GW, and if that doesn't worth either, I'd probably try cold-booting the entire car.

That is if I actually cared about spurious fault codes. You should see the list of spurious crap in my '06 A3. It runs fine anyway. :cool:

But "spurious fault codes" is not the issue. There are no (zero, zip, nada, none) fault codes, just an annunciation (with no further explanation) that 09 has a "0010 Malfunction". I attempted to recode the gateway but a copy/paste of the displayed code would not let me execute "do it" since I didn't change anything. Not sure what Jack means by setting it to default, did not see that option and heeded the warnings about not changing anything. I even tried doing the autoscan by letting VCDS auto-detect the chassis and then by forcing the chassis to 5N. No change.


Cold-booting the entire car (presumably by removing the battery cables and shorting them for 10 seconds or so to discharge the distributed capacitors)- that's more of PITA than I think it's worth. Right now I'm more concerned watching the local fires, about 10 miles away and randomly moving.

In any case, there are no issues I know of in the car (2012 Tiguan SEL).

BTW I like the reformatting of my autoscan from simply cutting/pasting the full text into the dialog box to putting it in a scrollable box. How you do dat...?

Right, the Gateway THINKS your BCM has a fault code.

Again, try clearing faults directly in the BCM and the GW.

You can also go into the GW and use the Installation List function to change the installed status of one module to temporailiy change one bit of the coding. Maybe tell it there is no BCM, then revert?

Mine shows all these errors and the only problem i have is the passenger's side mirror not folding, the driver's side unfolding after 20 seconds of starting the engine and sometimes i have the rear light off and on
