Evening Folks,

I’m about to go order a new G395 sensor to hopefully resolve the error on module 09. It looks to me that whatever those errors on module 8 are, they might also be resolved by replacing the faulty sensor on module 9. However, do you think the error in module 28 may also be due to the potentially faulty G395 sensor on module 9?

ps I didn’t update to the latest SW version last night before I canned as I wasn’t sure if the experimental clb files Dana sent me in November would be affected.

Check connectivity and LIN for proper function before changing the G395 sensor by testing with DVOM and WD in the RTFB.

I made this image, I'm going to use it:

G8YGwbm.jpg

G395
  • /1 ground
  • /2 LIN Bus Data to J519
  • /3 Power (Terminal 15)

Have you verified those are to factory design?

G395 uses a LIN Bus for the Data. Other items can be on that same LIN Bus and screw up communication. Looking at your VIN in Partslink24, no garage door opener, no vented seats. I've seen a lot of garage door openers screw the LIN Bus over... but since your car doesn't have it, rule that out. The only other sensor that might be on the LIN Bus would be an air quality or humidity sensor, but I don't see codes for that.... so, back to the Holy Trinity.

1 Fault Found:
0075 - Button or Switch in Operating Unit
B10C7 07 [008] - Mechanical Failure
Intermittent - Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
I suspect maybe a button was sticking. Clear it out, if it comes back then put more effort into it, but I'd not be concerned if it clears out.

I’m about to go order a new G395 sensor to hopefully resolve the error on module 09. It looks to me that whatever those errors on module 8 are, they might also be resolved by replacing the faulty sensor on module 9.
I think there's a good chance of that.

However, do you think the error in module 28 may also be due to the potentially faulty G395 sensor on module 9?
My guess is: No.

ps I didn’t update to the latest SW version last night before I canned as I wasn’t sure if the experimental clb files Dana sent me in November would be affected.
If they're in your User sub-folder (one level down from Labels), they should be unaffected, but make a backup copy of them someplace else, just in case.

well I took a gamble and replaced the sensor with a new OEM version today. I thought this would be the path of least resistance. disappointingly the gamble didn't however pay off. The faults persist. When you clear the sensor fault it reappears instantly every single time. Back to the drawing board I go. there is no value being measured in adv measuring block, just a - symbol.

Shame shame....that is like not checking fuses or doing the JPPSG?

Is that part replaced with possible FOD?

As I said, I took a gamble on the path of least resistance for me personally. I do not have any wiring diagrams to help me check continuity, nor do I know which fuse terminal feeds this. I hoped replacement would be a quick 5 min fix, rather than finding diagrams and doing some proper mandrolic fault finding.

where would one find said wiring diagrams does anyone know?

So, I bought the Erwin manuals and have been outside most of the day trying to diagnose without success, though I’m closing in for sure!
I have verified that the plug at G395 senor end has a healthy supply/ground. Therefore, I can only assume that the issue lies somewhere with the LIN cable between J519 and G395.

I was somewhat surprised by the current flow diagrams in Erwin. Given that I have a right-hand drive car, and the G395 is on the left-hand side of the car in front of the radiator. LIN cable from the sensor allegedly goes to socket T17o, pin 16 (RIGHT A PILLAR coupling station), then from T17i pin 16, (LEFT A PILLAR coupling station) to Socket C pin 4 of the J519 controller which is back on the Right side! Like a big zig zag across the car. Seemed odd to me given this is (presumably) a multidropable protocol.

Anyway, I managed to remove passenger side A/B pillar trim to expose the T17i pin 16, (LEFT A PILLAR coupling station). With my DVM attached to the LIN pin at the G395 plug, and the other end attached to the pin 16 on T17i (LEFT A PILLAR coupling station), I failed to get continuity. I spent a good while trying to locate the J519 module, but as I write this, I think I will park that investigation for now as the issue appears to reside either:
- Wiring between the coupling stations
- or wiring between T17o, pin 16 (RIGHT A PILLAR coupling station) and the G395 sensor.

It became too cold and windy to continue ripping trim off, so I will continue my efforts tomorrow.
Meanwhile, if anyone can advise where the J519 is located, that would be useful, as I cannot tell exactly its location from Erwin, other than drivers’ side, under dash. See pic attached.

Thanks All.

Beware of shared components on the LIN track BUS and that the G395 sensor you replaced is the correct part number, to avoid FOD!

Im admitting defeat. I couldn't get a buzz from my DVM whilst checking for continuity on the LIN between the sensor and the coupling station, nor between both coupling stations. The wiring looked visually OK. No clue why it wouldn't buzz. Very frustrated now!

Don't give up, post the LIN tracks in WD in screen shots and let's trace it together!

Isolate other components on the LIN by unplugging them and verifying what one is causing an open or if an overlay tests good.

If it were me I'd go check the rain/photo sensor first!

How would I determine all sensors on the LIN. Would my Erwin manuals help? By disconnecting each in turn, what will that achieve? I don't quite understand.
Thanks

LIN is single wire communication and when a wire is possibly down or a another sensor is faulty sharing the track can bring the entire data bus loop down for those components.

In addition to the RTFB maybe have a read of this thread & watch these videos here:

Morning mate, I've had a thought. What if I were to swap the g395 and g238 to rule out this new part isn't indeed faulty too, plus this should confirm if there is an issue with the wiring should VCDS start reporting that G395 is now healthy, whilst G238 is bad? Is it possible to do that? Both of these sensors appear to have the same/similar 3 pin plug, albeit with a slightly different pinout, are on the same bus back to j519 and are fed by the same power supply. The only difference I can see is that the G395 first utilises the coupling station route for my car (RHD). I could fashion a couple of jumpers to allow me to interface the G395 with the plug intended for the G238

Welcome your thoughts. Cheers
