The Amarok is both the first VW and the first pickup I have ever owned and this is my first experience of VCDS (Christmas present from the family) and therefore my first post here, of course.

Using information from the internet, with slight variations, I have managed to activate the Alt Speed Dis option to remove the KPH display which UK buyers are afflicted with, and also to change the Comfort Turn Signal from 3 flashes to 5, although this option was found in Channel 43 of Central Electrics adaptation, as indicated in a yellow help pop-up, rather than the channel usually suggested online.

However, the Amarok has a stop/start function which drives me mad. It can be turned off each engine start with a button but I always forget until the first time it stops so I'd like to change the default to "stop/start" off or just disable it completely.

I've found various suggestions on the internet which involve finding a drop-down listing which says "Start/stop start voltage limit" but I don't seem to have any drop-down with that entry. In fact, in the place where that option is supposed to be found, 19 CAN Control Gateway / Adaptation 10, I only have one entry in the drop-down, something to do with Fatigue Alarm or similar. My controllers all seem to be CAN rather than UDS although I don't know if that is relevant.

I've also found online references to an adaptation of module 09-Central elect., channel 34 by adding or subtracting numbers from the number present by default. I can find this channel which has a default entry of 30 on my Amarok, so could add or subtract but I've no idea whether this is really the right place. I tried subtracting 4 and then pressed "Test" but nothing seemed to happen, although I'm not sure what should happen anyway.

I decided not to make any changes unless I can discover whether this is really the right place. :o

I also have a complete VCDS auto scan which I assume I need to add as an attachment to this post but, as I can't see how to attach at the moment, I will provide a link to it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xf2pfdvzwoay65y/VW Fault Codes using Auto Scan.pdf?dl=0

Thanks, in advance, for any help.

Richard

Hi and welcome to our forum.

I don't know the Amarok well enough to offer any suggestions on the start/stop question.

However, I need to make an "Admin Request": Please don't use the PRINT function in VCDS to post scans or other data here; the formatting it produces is good for a sheet-fed printer but is quite hard to read here. Please just copy & paste the original, plain text that VCDS produces when you use the COPY or SAVE functions.

Sorry about that. I can see the problem now so I've reformatted the auto scan and re-posted it above.

It's much better, I hope. :)

Better, but somehow spaces and whitespace is still lost.

OK .... tried again. :)
It's pretty legible now.

Pro-Tip: If you've done an Auto-Scan, even if you didn't explicitly save it in its native text format, VCDS did so surreptitiously in its Scans sub-folder.

Now that's a great tip Uwe, many thanks.

I've now inserted the genuine article into my OP. :)

go on the bay and buy the interface that will "press" your S&S button every time you switch the ignition on. that's the cleanest way to get rid of it.

I'm still playing around with VCDS and trying to understand things better.

I stumbled upon this today:

10%20Module%208%20Auto%20HVAC.png

I don't have the option listed to disable stop/start using the HVAC temperature parameters often mentioned on the web but this option looks as if it might have a similar effect. However, the language leaves me confused so I haven't tried it yet.

If I select it I will change "stop release for stop-start function" from "according to function requirements" to "always" .... but what does "always stop release" mean in plain English, I wonder? If "release" means "operation" then it might work providing it doesn't reset every engine start like some of the stop/start options do.

Has anyone tried this option?

Richard

OK, I've tried the "Always" setting and the good news is that the control module the remembers the setting but the bad news is that it doesn't disable stop/start. I don't know what it does .... maybe it sets stop/start so that it always engages without checking the HVAC function requirements .... but, either way, it's not what I'm hoping for. :(

3. Adaption 10
4. Channel 34
Values:
4: Standard, Default ON, light when off
-4 Default OFF, light when off
+32 Default LAST USED SETTING, light when off
+64 Reverses warning indicator, light when on

I've tried something like that Audi process (I believe that my engine was used in Audis) although I didn't go through Security Access / 20113. Does this mean that my way would never have worked?

What I did was go straight from 09-Cent. Elect. to Adaptation 10 and then select Channel 34. I took the following screenshot:

8%20Central%20Electrics%20Channel%2034%20Undocumented.png

My value in Channel 34 is currently stored as 30, so I increased it to 94 and then clicked "Test". I hoped that at this point the yellow light on the Stop/start switch would come on to indicate that its operation has been reversed but nothing happened, so I exited out without Saving in case I was going to mess something up. :(

I might have got that wrong and perhaps that's not how the "Test" function would operate in this circumstance?

Also, I wasn't sure whether I was supposed to add 64 or change the value to 64, so I "Tested" both but neither did anything.

Any advice you could give me would be most welcome.

Many thanks

Richard

I finally had time today to try and login to 09-Central Electrics / 16-Security Access using 20113 but this is all that happens:

I don't seem to get locked out or anything bad .... just the error message and then I back out to the start.

This is the full list of documented adaptations in Cent Electrics. There's nothing about Start/Stop in there so presumably Channel 34, if it has anything to do with Stop/Start, is undocumented. There is a value of 30 in Channel 34 so presumably it does something but we just don't know what?

I'd be happy to try any further ideas.

The procedure from BavarianCare, is not for your controller!
So that login is not used here.

Channel 34 in your 09-Central Electrics, is some turning light angle.

I see. Thank you. Maybe it's the "Cornering Fog Lights" which come on when the steering wheel is turned more than a certain angle.

I wonder why that option does not appear in the drop-down list with the other documented adaptations? Having said that, I don't really understand what most of this VCDS stuff means anyway. :o

Do you know if there is a channel which relates to Start/Stop?

Richard

PS I think my Amarok is actually a 2019 model year if that makes any difference.

I've been trying to explore VCDS and my Amarok 2H and gain more understanding of these coding bytes and bits and, with the help of a binary - hex calculator, it's beginning to make more sense. :)

This is where I think I have got to now but I'd be grateful if someone could advise me whether I've grasped the basics.

Firstly, my 2H truck scan includes the following:

09 Cent Elect (J519)
Component: BCM PQ25 MMI4 H82 0762
Coding: 240002380C63140093380F316CCB96D4B280654F60CE7160310000030803 (30 bytes)

I think I am right in saying that the Amarok is therefore built on the PQ25 platform and will be similar, in terms of VCDS tweaks, to other PQ25 vehicles.

The second controller which seems to be often mentioned in the context of start-stop is the CAN Gateway. My scan shows:

19: CAN Gateway (J533)
Component: GW-K-CAN TP20 H82 0762
Coding: 742303 (3 bytes)

I have looked at other scans on this forum which include 09 Cent Elect (J519) Component: BCM PQ25 and they all seem to have 30 bytes in this module although with different bits, of course. These scans also seem to show 19: CAN Gateway (J533) Component: GW-K-CAN TP20 and they also seem to have only 3 bytes in use.

Am I therefore correct that if I could find an example of a car which has a Cent Elect (J519) BCM PQ25 and a CAN Gateway (J533) GW-K-CAN TP20 where start-stop has been modified by changing bits in Cent Elec or CAN Gateway, then I would be able to do the same .... or is it even more complicated than that?

From my searches so far, it does appear, as mentioned above, that there is no known way to modify start-stop with these two particular controllers but, if my logic above is correct, at least I know what I'm looking for.

Many thanks for any help.

Richard

Hi Richard!
How did it go for you were you able to disconnect the start/stop function?
I have a Amarok V6 190 kW 2019 and have tried to find how to do this.
I have original Ross-tech tools and SW.
Thanks in advance
Kaj

In 2019 Aamrok BCM it won't work anymore, but in Controller 61 -> Adaption -> Channel 13 it should be possible
