When i use the VCDS to scan the car engine module i inevitably get the following error which returns immediately upon clearing:
16985 - Internal Control Module
P0601 - 001 - Memory Check Sum Error - MIL ON
first of all - my MIL won't ever illuminate. i suspect this is due to the MTM chip installed as i do recall seeing it when the stock chip is returned and key in ignition. However, the error remains even when stock chip is re-installed.
my question is twofold - is there a way to fix this error short of a new/refurb. ECU (i.e. can it be repaired by myself?), and also, would this error prevent me from cycling the ABS bleed procedure?
when i try to start the ABS procedure with the 'start' button in output tests, it just does nothing and forces me to hit 'done'. the ABS system has no errors, it's 5.7 and the system operates fine. i've tried the generic login and also the soft codes version. Neither avenue helps in activating the ABS pump. Nor did trying to activate it w/ brake pedal depressed or car running.
I can run the test just fine on my audi a6 2000 with the same cable and laptop, so i don't think they're the problem.
Any/all insight greatly appreciated. i think i have a pretty good grasp of the car as i've removed the engine (twice...), replaced fuel tank, rebuilt the turbos, alternator, replaced an intake valve and master cylinder amongst other frustrating procedures. So don't hesitate to suggest solutions that seems too deep in the weeds, although simple solutions are obviously preferred. ;-)
