Touareg shift lever locked in park

Hello,
I have a friend whose 2006 Touareg is locked in park. It likely has other issues too, but for now we would just like to get it out of park. So far the only thing I have done is the auto scan. I have no clue what to do next. As far as I know the car is stock.
Any help is much appreciated. (a bigger hammer maybe?)

Looks like a number of powertrain modules aren't communicating, including the TCM.

Check voltage supplies to all of them, starting at the relevant fuses.

Please check for water ingress at all modules it is very common shorting out terminal 15 & verify batteries health status.

I'd start with the kessy since it authorizes the shifter/steering lock.

Check under drivers side floor carpet for corroded harness if wet. Of course battery condition as well.

Missing; a lot and not exclusively powertrain CAN but also comfort CAN (i.e. door control modules, telephone).

The missing have in common, as I can quickly see, supply of 12V terminal 30 by B301. Coming from fuses SD2 and SD4.
Please check the fuses in the electronics box, under drivers seat.
Also, measure the fuses in the left plenum chamber. Many of them should have 12V consttantly. Look up a fuse card by google to be sure.

There is a solenoid in the shifter mechanism that releases the button and lever action, activated by the brake pedal. Do you get a green foot icon on where speedo is and when you press brake should disappear?

This wire turns on the solenoid that powers up the passenger side fuse box - in that is the transmission control, among others. I really think this is the issue here because of the many codes you are getting. The driver's seat pretty much has to come out to get to the relay but it's easy to put in a jumper and confirm that everything works when this is done.

This has been repaired twice in my 04 3.2 Touareg - the first time in less than 40k miles it had when I bought it. 2nd time about 60k by me.

iichel is saying the same thing I am. I wish I'd had this advice sooner when it happened to me - it was 2 weeks before I figured it out
