Hi VCDS Gurus!
I need some help in understanding the procedure for modifying the speedometer reading on a Golf MkVII. In essence, I want to alter the speedo reading (which currently over-estimates my speed) to more accurately indicate "true road speed". I hope to be able to do this with a commercial GPS (not the whimpy VW SATNAV), a straight section of good Aussie road and my new best friend (i.e my trusty VCDS cable).

Anyhow, I've looked at a number of sites (both here and on other forums) that explain the importance the "distance impulse number" which resides (as I understand) in the Instrument control module. This all sounds quite within my limited capabilities except that there appears not to be such a thing in the Instrument control module for my car. At first I thought that the "tire circumference" setting (see URL link below) might be an alternative, but this appears to be a red-herring.

I've also tried to find mention of "distance impulse number" on the other control modules on the car - alas without success.

I'm prepared to give my undying gratitude to anyone that can provide advice (single syllables, no TLAs-please) as to where to re commence further research on this matter.

I'm afraid its not possible. On mkiv platform, which i'm familiar with, has the speedoscale in software. Unless you're able to download cluster file, modify the cluster scale and reload it back to cluster, I'm thinking you're out of luck.

Correct me, if I'm wrong.

golfi_vend:Many Thanks for the response (especially from an exotic place like Estonia). Re-flashing the instrument cluster software is certainly well beyond my (luddite-like) capabilities. Guess that I will have to live with the Speedo inaccuracy. Again my gratitude for the reply

MK VII, is to new for me, but isn't there a option on car radio to see the can-bus speed? Can speed is more accurate then the purposed false speed on speedo.
Ie, like on rns510, you could see the hidden menu.

And what exotic, there should be many Estonians in Australia, I know there is a Estonian House even in Melbourne .:cool:

Golf-_vend: Can-bus speed? I assume that you are referring to the Discover media screen on the Golf mkVII. I've looked very closely at the options availlable to the driver on the Discover media screen and I'm fairly sure that I don't have access to the can-bus speed (albeit there may well be a "hidden menu" somewhere of which I'm not aware). I am aware of a VCDS tweak that can be done on the mkVII called the "Driving School Mode" (it's on the stemie.de site - see link below). As I understand, this tweak will show the car's speed on the discover media screen, but I had assumed that it simply replicated the speed shown on the MFD. Is this the "can-bus speed" to which you refer?

Because of the tryanny of distance down here, almost all European places are "exotic" to me. I know very little about Estonia. This is probably why Estonia seems to be especially exotic (btw, exotic is a good thing)!
