New VW Owner with Fault codes

Hello all, very new to Volkswagens. I have a completely stock 2010 Sportwagen TDI. I was hoping someone could give me a hand with troubleshooting some of the issues with my car. I seem to have the classic all the lights on in the dashboard. Most other people's posts I've seen have pointed to the wheel speed sensors, but I am getting an error on each one. This seems that it would point more towards the module from what I'm reading, but I also noted the low voltage as well which made it seem like it may not be getting the appropriate voltage? I appreciate any advice that anyone has to give me to progress through troubleshooting this.

I'm also open to advice to fixing any of the other numerous faults that the VCDS logged. Thank you in advance!

Twelve year old car with ~160,000 miles on it, and a metric ship-ton of fault codes, most of which are flagged, "Intermittent", meaning the fault condition that set the code did not exist (or could not be detected) at the time the scan was performed.

So, first thing: Clear all fault codes, then see what comes back right away or most quickly, and then let's focus on those.

Alright, I had a chance to get everything cleared this morning, and was able to take it on a drive to get the codes to refresh now. It definitely looks a good bit more manageable now. It looks like the prevalent errors are still related to the ABS. With it cleared the sensor faults only came back on the front, but I am still received the implausible data from ABS module, as well as the voltage fault.

I only pulled and visibly checked the I believe 20 amp ABS fuse in the engine compartment. I will go out and electrically test it as soon as I get a chance. Likely this weekend.

Apologies for the delayed follow up with this. Life gets really busy sometimes and I was finally able to take a look at it. I ordered some "premium" carquest wheel speed sensors from advanced auto for the front. I replaced both of them this morning. I found some rust build up on the drivers side, and found part of the electrical contacts exposed on the passenger side between the connector plug in and the base of the sensor. I sprayed out the sensor hole with brake clean and let it dry before installing the new ones. When I do a full brake job I plan to clean the tone rings really well. I cleared the codes this time and they did not immediately come back so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for now.

I'm not saying they won't work, but I don't have much faith that they will either. Personally, I'd only do OEM for stuff like that.

I'll give these a shot. I don't have much to lose since they are covered by their lifetime warranty. Should they fail I'll order the OEM VW parts and just get my money back on those.

I got a chance to drive for quite a bit yesterday, and it looks like some of the codes returned. I'm a bit confused about it. There were a couple times that the warning lights went away, but then they came back. On the bright side, the Brake light did not come back and put it in limp mode. I also had another issue pop up where when I let off the brake and went to hit the gas I had the car stall out. It looks like I need to take a look at that as well.

I checked the fuse to the ABS module in the engine bay, and it checks out good.

Hey Uwe,

I apologize for the thread revival here, but I wanted it to at least be anchor for anyone who doubted using OEM VW speed sensors.

You were absolutely right. I returned that carquest junk, ordered some from a VW a little bit further from me. (The one local to me wanted almost 300 more than the one further way for them!) I ended replacing the three trouble makers and have had zero issues since with anything that I had problems with before. For the 3 sensors I needed I paid about 400 for them.

I'm about to do brakes all the way around and make sure all the tone surfaces are nice and clean while I have it open.

I really appreciate your help and wish I would have taken your advice sooner and had less headache.
