Hi would it be possible to work out the long coding for the ABS control unit as it was lost during a Instrument cluster swap (forgot to do a Autoscan first)

We do not have enough information to build that long coding from scratch but it is entirely possible that another member can help you. I see you registered for technical support with us so one of the guys should be able to switch your user status to Verified VCDS user and move this to the Car Repair Support sub-forum.

Do you have any old scans of the car saved anywhere? If you do then you should retrieve the original long coding value from that.

The problem with the ABS module is that I believe the VIN of the car is encoded and present within the coding value. This means that you can't simply just find another car with the same ABS module and copy its long coding value. Also, as this is the ABS system we are talking about here which is a critical safety component of the car, I would be hesitant/cautious about trying to use coding values from a different car which happens to have the same ABS unit installed. While they may appear to work without any fault codes subsequently getting thrown up, you will never know if one of the bytes should really be set to a different value on your car for a specific reason.

I think in this instance your best and safest option would be to take the car to a VAG dealer / specialist and get them to recode your ABS module on their VAS machine. At least then you will have peace of mind that it has been done properly and will have a 100% correct coding value. Once this has been done, make sure you immediately do an Auto-Scan and keep a copy of that somewhere safe for future reference in case you ever need to get the original coding values back for any of your control modules.

I guess the question to ask NEtech is whether that code has been calculated using the details of your car of if it is just a code from another car with the same ABS module as yours. As I understood it, the VIN number is encoded into the code for the ABS module so unless the given code has been specifically calculated or got using SVM it is never going to be 100% correct for your car even if it does appear to work.

It is a combination, VIN and some Bytes are correct and some are compared to a similar equipped model.
But as mentioned if you want to be sure it is the exact code, let it be made online with SVM.

Sorry about that Autoscan we have the original Rosstech equipment I can do a Autoscan with that, but as it is on one of our sales cars the original software is not on a portable computer and the car is in our compound so I did it with that lead as you can see it is not an up to date lead. That is why we purchased the original one as you can see it is uptodate sorry about that.

No it doesn't. Just because you have one original system does not entitle you to use other pirated copies of it. You can install the software on as many computers as you want, but you MUST use an original lead, because that's where your license resides. If you need to use it in more than one location at a time, them you must purchase additional leads.

Take a hammer to to the clone lead, smash it to bits, and prove that you did so with photos, or you're gone from this forum and your business will receive no further support from Ross-Tech.
