Hi all

Looking for some help diagnosing a p2002 fault code on my Golf Mk7 TDI 1.6 Bluemotion.

I have replaced the G450 sensor and performed an adaptation. I think the differential pressure values look normal (5hPa at idle up to 100hPa at 2500RPM)

The DPF soot values look normal too (15g soot load / 21% ash load) and the DPF is performing an auto regen every 300 miles or so.

So why am I getting the p2002 fault? Any help / ideas appreciated.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to our forum. Nice first post, with a complete Auto-Scan wrapped in CODE tags.

I'm going to recommend you Get Verified so we can move this to the Car Repair section, where it will get more attention.

I wonder if this ECU would benefit from a software update? You have version 6544, and according to this site, a substantially newer version 9231 is available.

Hi wycombephil,
Was it a genuine G450 sensor?

Thanks for your quick reply. I'll sort my registration out tonight

A couple of questions if I may:
1 I dont think VCDS can perform flash upgrade. Is that correct a d if so do you recommend any tools to do this?
2 do you know of any information that will explain the logic behind the p2002 code. If this.... then that....

HMC
Thanks for your reply. Yes, it was a genuine VW part

An independent with ODIS or a passthru interface and a subscription to VW could do the flash update. Have you tried to see if a forced regen is available? Otherwise a DPF clean might be required, what is the DPF pressure KOEO?

KOEO is 1hPa

Can do a forced regen with VCDS but wanted to understand the root cause first as I didn't think the pressures seemed that high (100hPa at 2500RPM)

OK, problem now solved so here's the full write up from problem report to resolution.

Car : VW Gold mk 7 Bluemotion 1.6 TDI 2015 UK model

2 months ago CEL light came on for the first time. No previous problems. Car had done around 60,000 miles

Took it to local garage who read the fault code as P2002. Thought it was probably down to bad diesel so reset light and sent me on my way. I bought a fault code reader / resetter on my way home

In the last month or so CEL light kept coming back on, typically 100 or so miles after a reset and normally soon after the engine warmed up (maybe 15mins into journey). Always p2002 code. Car performance / economy was not affected.

Took it to a different garage nearer work who told me the DPF was blocked and quote £1000 for to remove / clean / refit or nearly £2000 for remove / replace / refit. Based on that I was prepared to do a little digging myself....

Bought a Carista buetooth OBDII adaptor and VAG DPF (full) and Torque (full) apps for Android phone.

From VAG DPF I determined that the DPF regen cycle seemed to be working fine (triggered every 300 miles and soot values reduced from ~22g to ~5g during the regen). Also showed that the oil ask value was ~25% / 21g. The limit for the car is 100% / 80g. At this point I still didn't know the cause but stringly suspected it was not the DPF. Torque was useful for resetting the CEL but limited otherwise.

Bought VCDS software from Gendan.co.uk (great service by the way - thank you!) and ran an Autoscan (results above). Again, nothing obvious but further research suggested that a p2002 code can be cause by a failed G450 pressure sensor. Also that non-genuine G450 sensors are unreliable.

Ordered genuine VW G450 sensor from local agent. Fitted and (I thought...) adapted with VCDS. Drove for a couple of days then CEL light came back on.

Based on Uwe's advice above I bought and hour's access to the VW repair manual for the car via the erwin.volkswagen.de website (again, great info here even if you do have to pay for it!). Found that I had replaced the wrong sensor

G450 has 2 pipes connected to it
G505 has 1 pipe connected to it

Kind of obvious when you consider that the G450 is a differential pressure sensor across the exhaust but I assumed that the downstream pressure was pretty much atmospheric so it shouldn't make a lot of difference.

So, swapped the sensors over (fortunately I hadn't thrown the "bad" sensor away), re-adapted with VCDS and now all is well.

So, I spent a little over £300 pounds including parts, software etc. vs the £1000 I was quoted AND I get to use VCDS to satisfy my inner geek. I think it will be a good long term investment as we are a 2 Golf family and have no plans to change cars any time soon.

Thanks to Uwe and HMC above for you suggestions. Hope this write up helps someone else.

Sorry, I missed that. Moving this to the Car Repair section.

So, I spent a little over £300 pounds including parts, software etc. vs the £1000 I was quoted AND I get to use VCDS to satisfy my inner geek. I think it will be a good long term investment as we are a 2 Golf family and have no plans to change cars any time soon.

And it sounds like spending the £1000 would not have fixed the actual problem.

OK, problem now solved so here's the full write up from problem report to resolution......

Thanks for the write up, I had a P2002 today in an identical car and mileage and will dig out my cable and investigate tomorrow.

In the EU you only need to buy 1 hour access, which Google tells me will cost €7.00
