Have understood for many years that all Volkswagen MQB either had Adaptive Cruise Control all the time, or basic Cruise Control all the time. Or nothing. Switching a car from ACC to CC required lots of ECU recoding and a change of steering wheel buttons.

Today I was confronted with this video:

Anyone know how this is configured with a diagnostic tool, or even what the feature itself is called, a PR code or anything? What cars is it available on, starting when? All search terms I can think of lead back to the assumptions above, which appear to have changed. I have a sense it may have started in MY2023.

It's just a smal coding, but requirement is in most case a car producing started in 2020, most older cars aren't able to as Dash and ECU isn'T capable. Will post coding later if needed

I believe this is possible on later (sw update possible) 2Q0 Continental radars. Just 1 bit in coding, experimental coding should help.
On cluster You need adaption channel called "cordinator" I think. Just search for ccs or cruise and you will discover the prefix for the channel.

But the cluster SW must support it. On Passat B8 cluster it's either 3xxx or 4xxx software.

It's working also in Bosch ACC, but only in Passat B8.5 / Superb 3.5. All other cars with Bosch never support.

but you're correct it Byte 24 in ACC and longitude coordinator in Dash Adaptions

Conti ACC cars like Ateca will upport it in last MY before Facelift in some case. Also all MQB Klassik Facelift cars support in most case

Tried this on my 2017 Passat 220tsi with 3G0920791D AID (3QF ACC) and got this menu, but it doesn't do anything.

Yeah as you have AID1, this won't support it. In Goilf with 5Q0 920 791 C it's also not possible.
It needs VC2 with a minimum at firmware

I suspect that the ECU or the radar (3QF) was to old for getting this menu to work.
Because the menu is there, but not usable..
