Hi,
This is gonna be a long post...
My GF has a Fabia 5J (mk2 non-canbus) which has had an issue for ages where the SRI could not be resetted. Not by VCDS, not by 3rd party dealer and not by Skoda dealer.
I down-prioritized it as non-fatal error but now the time caught up with me while I was forced to fix a fan problem which was non-fatal until it became fatal. (Climatronic fan regulator faulty resulting in full speed fan only. Full instrument panel removal to replace. Non-fatal error. After a few years on full speed the fan finally died. Unfortunately fatal error.)
In the meanwhile my GF has complained the car wouldn't start sometimes when getting home from work, waiting a while it finally started. This has only appeared seldomly last few months.
Summary; three major issues:
- Faulty climatronic; this has been completely sorted now.
- Seldomly won't start but recovers in a while
- SRI cannot be reset
So while fiddling with the climatronic issues I did a few VCDS run's, doing the Auto-Scan.
I will attach the full results on the bottom of the post to ease reading.
First run where climatronic panel, radio and airbags was removed. Respone from the following modules:
Address 01: Engine (03C 906 024 B)
Address 03: ABS Brakes (6R0 907 379 E)
Address 09: Cent. Elect. (6Q1 937 049 F)
Address 15: Airbags (1C0 909 605 F)
Address 46: Central Conv. (5J0 959 433 A)
The instrument cluster was still in there but didn't respond.
Any run nowadays with all parts assembled only gets response from the following modules:
Address 01: Engine (03C 906 024 B)
Address 46: Central Conv. (5J0 959 433 A)
I'm pretty sure I should get response from these modules as well in a fully functional car:
Address 08: Auto HVAC
Address 17: Instruments
Address 56: Radio (std radio, no aftermarket)
And possibly but I'm not sure on this one:
Address 76: Park Assist
I've sent debug logs to Ross-tech who kindly answered there are no response at all from any of the non-responding modules.
I just recently specifically tried to connect to the ABS modules several times, no reponse at all.
Are there anyone here who has any idea why this is the case?
The car does not have can-bus but obviously there is some communication bus where all modules are addressed specifically. Could there be an issue with this bus? The step is huge to connect an oscilloscope and troubleshoot low-level but it's kinda the next step if noone has any amazing ideas. The knowledge step to get to decode all information and understand it won't be small and will be time-consuming.
On the non-starting issue I ran into it once myself. While running on the starter I had my eyes on the tachometer and it was dead until it jumped up to 1000 revs when the car finally started. My idea here is the crank sensor or crank sensor signal. But nothing confirmed. No error codes in engine module which I kinda would expect if the signal from the crank sensor is playing up. Besides it never fails when the car is running which should be possible as well with random crank sensor errors.
Perhaps this can be related to the communication issues as well, I don't know. I think in the simplest of cases the engine should run with the engine module working properly and proper signals from immobilizer. Any idea on this one?
