Hi Forum members.

I am new to using VCDS-Lite
I have a question in regards to identifying Measuring Block codes.

Q. Is it possible to identify the available Measuring Blocks for a controller with no Label using VCDS-Lite?

For example, I would like to do a Throttle Body Alignment (TBA) but the normal codes (098), (001), or even (060) did either not relate to the TBA, or were valid.

The vehicle is a 2003 VW Transporter 5cyl 2.5L (AET) petrol engine with a manual transmission. Cable Throttle Engine.
This is a fairly common engine for Australia.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

TBA is done in Basic Settings Group 001 on the AET engine but you're going to have to fix whatever is causing those TPS faults first.

Thanks Uwe
I am working on that, but so far I cant find any documentation at all on what the 8pins (7actual) on the plug to the sensor are. Voltages etc or where they go. It's really hard to test.

As for Group 001, all I get is:
0/min (RPM), 11c (temp), 1.56v (voltage) and 10000001 (Bin Bits)
Unpluged or full throttle it changes to
10010101 (Bin Bits)
There is noting that resembles any of the normal TBA measurements.

Given that you have two short to ground codes, I would be looking for a missing voltage supply at the throttle.

You are right Uwe
I did some checking today and there is 6 volts that should be going to the TPS, but only seeing 0.1 of a volt. Also not getting 10 -12 volts to the Hall Sender. Checked all the wiring to the ECU from the Hall sender and TPS It's all ok.

Could be the ECU I guess. VW quoted $2500 for a new one. Nearly half the price of the Van. Do ECU's normally just stop working like this? If so, why don't errors show up to say it's an ECU issue? Can these things be Reflashed?

Checked how? Verified continuity?

ECUs rarely fail, and when they do, more often than not, the failure is induced through an external problem.

VCDS can only tell you what the car knows. Your van may be a 2003, but it's 1990's technology.

I would certainly do more verification before putting an ECU in it, and I might start looking for a used one.

Thanks Uwe.

I followed all the steps in the workshop manual testing for open and closed circuits between the TPS plug and ECU plug.
I also went through all steps testing between the 3pin Hall Sensor and ECU plug.
I tested power going into the ECU from the number 30 relay. Its all good.

It is all pointing back to the ECU, so I have purchased a second hand one. Unfortunately It didn't come with a pin. I don't know the Pin of the current one either.
Does this mean I can't match the replacement (sec hand unit) to the vehicle?
If you don't know the pin, how on earth do you find it?

A 2003 T4 is almost certainly Immo-3, which means you need both PINs to match an ECU -- the PIN from the vehicle that the ECU is going to be installed in as well as the PIN from the donor vehicle. However, we don't discuss means of retrieving pins here because any such means also provide the ability to be "Gone in 60 Seconds".

Hmmm!

well your advice has been correct so far.

Looks like I am stuck though. I contacted VW and they said that I would have to get the vehicle towed to their workshop. I would also have to purchase a new ECU because they won't install and recode a second hand unit. All up I am looking over $3k plus. I only paid $4k for the van.
Thanks for your help Uwe.
