hi where do i find the list for creating a ecm code for my car ?
the car in question is a uk 2003 audi a4 1.9 tdi multitronic the code currently is set at 000001 and having communication errors and wondering if this could be the cause of it.
gearbox tcu has been opened and no wiring faults have been found but its the abs fault code that making me wonder if its the engine ecm thats not configured properly with its current coding and been looking for ages trying to find the list

Does the TCU has all of it power and ground? No bad connection on the fuse holder on the battery?

You have no communication with your tcu, would it not be best practice to get the relevant wiring diagrams and then check power and earth's to the tcu?

What exactly is wrong with the car?

no drive via gearbox and no prds symbols on the dash gear selector lights work but does nothing regarding gear selection have tested down at the socket and pins 9 and 10 do have power but around 11.9v hence wanting to try another battery

when i bought the car the 4 relays under the ecu had been submerged in water all have been opened and tested to confirm they work and no fuses found to be popped

Checking resistance, Continuity and short to ground/positive/each other?( continuity should never be used for testing condition of wires) Unfortunately my laptop is in the workshop so I have no access to my wiring diagrams, but in this occasion I don't think coding is your problem. I would nearly be sure these Engine modules only having coding of 00001 or 00002, but irrespective of that, you need to have comms with the tcu or you'll never get it to work.

its the p1647 message from the abs ecu saying Check Coding of ECUs on Powertrain Data Bus thats making me wonder if its due to something loosing its coding thats causing the tcu not to be listened too

I don't think so. Notice that your ABS is also complaining that it can't talk to the TCU, and that VCDS can't talk to the TCU?

Are you trying to code an ECU for a different trans?

Are you changing ECU?

Wrong ECU in car?

Why do you want to code ECU?

Good Luck

Ahh that coding table is for a gasser/petro.
It's not going to fix your problem of failing to use the appropriate RTFB or the COM issue for the multitronic POS not talking.

Further that WD is hunk of SHIT..... nix that please.......

Time for JPPSG..........and Erwin.

(Car has just been bought with this fault so no true history of what happened and why though given water was found in the ecu tray its leading me to think water ingress to cabling etc. only info of what i have found regarding the tcu failures is the internal cables snap hence opening the tcu up and checking pins to wire points on board to rule out and non visable snaps )

interior carpet has been removed as carpet was wet but the underside wasnt soaking underneath but will allow me to clean the carpets properly anyway so dont mind doing that

Time to inspect everything and trace via the correct WD.
All aforementioned posts are and have been a waste of time.

Being from the UK there is a lot I don't know about this A4 and it's a TDI.

First off is TCU in the ECU box in the cowl area or under right side rug?

Shit I don't even know if it's right or left hand drive or if that matters.....

But water in the ECU box means go under battery and open the cowl drains so water can flow out.
Reseal ECU box to the cowl body. Reseal the fresh air intake box to the body on other side also.

Then find TCU and load test all power and grounds with a head light bulb that draws a few amps.

Then post back the findings.

Good Luck.

P.S. Uwe we need a forum made for US cars only and a forum for ROW cars.
For guys like me it would be much easier! Then the pro's like Jack can follow both. LOL
But for guy's like me I am lost on ROW so I am afraid to comment.

No offense to ROW!

Based on the ABS coding, this car has an 01J CVT type of transmission, which has the TCU mechantronic integral to the transmission itself.

Nah, with very few exceptions (a few engines that were NAR only), NAR model cars are just a subset of the cars offered on ROW markets.

From what I see, your 30 feed is on pin 26 on j217 (tcu) the earth's for said unit are on pin 6 and 34. Your 15 feed is direct from ignition into pins 54/55. So going by this I'm pretty keen to know what exactly you tested giving you said you already checked pins?? But they weren't the numbers I can see.

Edit as @Uwe has already said, the tcu is built onto the rear of the gearbox.
