I have recently had a factory trailer hitch installed on a 2013 Touareg, and would like to know how to change the coding to put power on pin 4 to charge trailer batteries, and also how do I disable the rear hatch from opening when trailer is plugged in to the Touareg?

Hello,

I received your PM but I do not have any personal experience with that retrofit. I suspect those are configured online at the VW dealer using SVM (Software Version Management). If this was a retrofit kit please post the part number so we can see if installation or configuration instructions are available.

The best place to get help from the greatest variety of different people would be in our Retrofits sub-forum but you aren't a verified user at this time. Please post the short serial number from the part the plugs into the car so the guys can switch you to a VCDS Verified user.

On my Hex=CAN 429122?

It is factory installed and I have seen its possible to change the coding on the slightly earlier Touareg to change the coding to put power on pin 4 to charge trailer batteries, and also how do I disable the rear hatch from opening when trailer is plugged in to the Touareg?
I believe they were changing the coding from a 1 to a two.

Thanks Robert. We found that file, tweaked your forum account to Verified VCDS user and moved this thread to the Retrofits section yesterday.

Was this a retrofit kit from the VW dealer or did you purchase the parts individually? Any additional information you can provide would be helpful so we can see if VW installation or configuration instructions are available.

OK, per the VIN PR Code 1D6 Trailer hitch is listed so it should have been properly configured from the factory. If you believe it is not when compared to other VW Touareg models I would send this vehicle to the VW dealer so they can dig into that.

I do not know if the power supply you are after is possible and the 6D: Trunk Elect. controller is coded for Trailer Hitch Installed so I do not have an explanation for the hatch operation. If you don't receive any other replies here you may want to post in one of the Touareg specific forums to see if they have solutions to either one of these concerns.

What type of trailer socket was installed? If it was the Euro 13 pin style (ISO11446) then pin 4 is not used for charging the trailer battery - it's the right turn signal indicator...

The charging function is on pin 10+ and pin 11- and even for factory installations, you 'enable' it with a small wiring harness that has a relay driven from terminal 15 (ignition switched live).

You may have 12N/12S sockets and you refer to pin 4 on 12S? Again, you need to add the harness.

In 08 HVAC you must go to long coding and select the trailer hitch byte .
