I have a new remote key for my audi A2, but I fail to save the key to the position I've chosen. The key is recognised and the position becomes occupied, but the key is not saved. I start the procedure by resetting all adaptations. On group 7 I can successfully read 0000. After the adaptation I can se that the position is occupied, it now states 1000. Pressing the different remote buttons is recognised under group 7, but the remote is not saved. What is wrong?

But I believe this might be a bug in the program.

Interesting. The highlighted part is indicative of a communications error. If you go directly to 46, are the comms stable? Are there any fault codes there?

Stable yes, fault code 01561 - Rear Left Door: Won't De-Safe
But the door works normally, the deadlock as well.

Is VCDS configured with WSC, tester number and importer number set?

Can you try a recode of 0x46-07 to default?

Are you hitting save in VCDS in adaption of remote new value position if supported?

Yes I can recode to default 0000, by writing to position 5 (there are only 4 positions, so the number 5 is a reset command according to audi repair manual), but not when doing a reset the way ross-tech dictates. Yes I am hitting save, and I can see that the position is occupied from 0000 to 1000. But the key is not saved. Pressing the buttons I get 1,2,3 but the number of keys matched is still 0. VCDS is not configured with any WSC, default value is 0 everywhere.

This is the first thing I would change - some modules do not accept coding when VCDS uses these values. Change them to something relevant to your country/car - by looking at the values in the modules on the car (shown in the Auto-Scan).

The instructions on the Ross-Tech website doesn't match the audi repair manual; checking Audi A2 forums, there seem to be a general agreement that instructions are wrong. Maybe it's time to update the information. PetrolDave I don't believe your suggestion is correct. VCDS is running in stealth mode. The module is not new, new modules might have a problem accepting 0.

Isn't it still worth trying though??? As I said some modules do not accept coding when VCDS is running in stealth mode...

Well according to the Ross-Tech website once you change this field It cannot easily be undone..

That applies however you plan to change it so changing VCDS out of stealth mode is not relevant to that concern.

How do you propose that Ross-Tech get the "correct" information if the Audi repair manual is wrong and the A2 forums are not offering the "correct" information? Audi won't tell Ross-Tech that's almost guaranteed!

I didn’t say that. The Audi has the correct info on the procedure. The reset procedure back to zero state is done by writing to position 5. Every post I’ve read in different forums fail to reset due to the fact that they follow procedure on Ross-Tech, not everyone has the manual.

I think this module is too old to require a change of WSC, however it doesn't cost much to try.

As for it being difficult to change back, it really isn't. You just have to know how. Hint: Deleting the VCDS.CFG file will revert VCDS back to stealth mode.

If you believe the procedure in our Wiki is incorrect, please suggest a correct one once you've verified it works. We're not in a position to test that procedure ourselves since the A2 was never imported or sold here.

I tried changing the WSC, made no difference. At what Point can we report this as a bug?

The ross -Tech procedure for reset doesn't work.
Does the "saving value 5" work ?
And you have read about synchronization?

but not when doing a reset the way ross-tech dictates.
It is not an dictate, it is trying to give an help.
There are so many ways for remotes and things that can go wrong, I know many who had problems, also dealers, with different remote adaptations.
Is ignition switch working correct (MWB 016), door open/closed, one key in ignition switch or out, handbrake, etc...
This is not all for your model, but just in general.

At what Point can we report this as a bug?
I doubt it is an bug, I adapted a remote on same model and year, some months ago (but newer software "Komfortgerát T2D 0614")

Have you tested this:
Write number of next free place > Press [Test] > Press Lock or Open remote and hold > Press [Save] > Release remote
Look at field 3.
