Getting my car back on the road after an extended lay-up, due mainly to the plague. Fixed an oil leak on the exhaust camshaft
side of the valve cover and renewed the crankcase ventilation pipework. Also had the LCD in the binnacle replaced.
Taxed and insured it and the first run out the speedo works fine below 45 mph above that it drops to zero and the odometer stops working. Speed goes below 45 and both speedo and odometer start working.
I renewed the speed/distance sensor but the problem is still there.
Removed the binnacle and checked to ensure all the connection pins are ok yes they are.
This is driving me bananas as there are no faults showing up on vcds.
Where should I look next please.

We'll need you to post a full unedited VCDS Auto-Scan for us to suggest the next steps - see my sig for a link to a How-To

First up I'll come clean, I am an absolute dope when it comes to computers etc and although I've paid my registration fee there is no way I can get the vcds lite to accept the code that I was sent by ross-tech.
I tried to get an autoscan but for some reason only two controllers get scanned and so I took a picture of the read out as I couldn't either copy or transfer the file.
Now I can't even insert the pic as I don't have a url.
The two controllers are 01 engine it says (in red) labels: redir Fail! coding 10710 no fault code found readiness 0110 0101.
Second controller is abs brakes labels: None
Component esp 20 can v005 coding 18446 no fault code found.
During the layup period the battery failed, through my photo electric charger failing.
I have obd eleven and that confirms no faults though there are some defects, two of the controllers have the 65535 code, the srs controller and the haldex controller.
I appreciate this isn't much help.

There's a video at the very bottom of the download page for VCDS-Lite.

The part you need is starts at about 4:35.

Now I can't even insert the pic as I don't have a url.
Upload them to a photo hosting service such as imgur.com as explained here.

Uwe, many thanks, my problem was a brain fart. I'm knocking on 80 years old and didn't realise my computer was running an unsupported version of Java.
Once I uninstalled the old stuff and downloaded the new the activation code slotted in fine. I'll go out in the morning (it's 22.30 here) and try to run an auto scan.

2001 Audi TT Quattro 225 Speedo issues part 2

As discussed in my other thread, the speedo appears to work fine up to 45mph, then the needle wobbles and drops to zero. At the same time the odometer stops recording.
When the speed declines back down below 45 mph both functions recommence working.
Here's my autoscan. Any ideas please? A new vag speed sensor has been fitted.

Threads merged and moved to Car Repair Support.

Does that old instrument cluster support Output Tests? I honestly don't know, but it's worth trying to see what happens.

Haven’t tried that yet, the gauges deflect as I believe they should with the test function. I am now exposing the cables and the connector looks distinctly duff . The cable protector is all crushed and Brittle where it lives in amongst the shift cables and exhaust down pipe so I’ve ordered up a new connector and will solder it in as far up the run as I can expose. Expect delivery of the new connector complete with pigtails over the weekend.
