2012 Passat TDI AdBlue reset

Got only one AdBlue warning from my Passat at 200 miles to go after having a CEL pop up. Took it to the shop, they ran a diagnostic and reset/"fixed" the light...got it back, it threw a CEL after about thirty miles and the warning is now down to 80mi. Before taking it back in on Monday, decided to run the AdBlue reset listed here in the forums because my legitimate RossTech cable arrived after taking it to the shop. Cleared some codes and tried to do the reset process; however, my foot slipped and stopped the process about 10mins in. I was trying to plug my phone in due to low battery (running VCDS on laptop, forum on phone) but dropped it and took my foot off the pedal accidentally. Was planning on attempting to do that same reset process again after seeing how you all manage to keep your foot on the brake AND have the accelerator depressed for thirty minutes. I'm a land surveyor and walk 20-30 miles a week and my legs hurt like hell...i assume there's a trick to it?

Your ECU looks like it has VW's Dieselgate software "fix" in it. That means the entire Adblue system (among other things) is still under warranty.

Please describe the exact "reset process" you've tried already.

I got in touch with VW Customer Care via Twitter and they also mentioned the extended warranty regarding this AdBlue "being full but claiming it isn't" situation. When i took it in, the service report I received said something to the effect of "customer has CEL and AdBlue warning. Filled tank (tank was already very close to full) and reset indicator"

The check engine light was off when i received the vehicle, but within a day, the CEL popped back on and the "90 miles until no engine start possible" warning came back up.

Was supposed to follow up with a regional case manager on Friday re: my service and of course when i spoke to them, the check light was still off. by the time i got home with the light on, the RCM was off for the weekend. I am supposed to correspond with them on Monday and bring the vehicle back to that service center, but i was wholly frustrated with the "clear codes and cross fingers" approach they took at the dealership. I had considered showing them the scan results on Monday because it appears they were trying to avoid actual warranty work, but I am unsure of how to approach this whole situation.

Report to EPA CARB and class counsel yet and take it back for warranty because if they fail to fix it they would violate their own stipulation for some serious non discretionary pound them in ASS penalties huh?

You do realize "class counsel" is your Lawyer right for such assistance in these matters?

I would try to get that procedure to run to completion. If your legs can't take it, cut a couple of pieces of wood to the appropriate length and wedge them between the driver's seat an the pedals (easier if the driver's seat has electrical fore/aft adjustment, but doable even with a manual seat).

If that doesn't fix it, then by all means, make a federal case out of it with VW. I sometimes question Jack's "useful life" warranty assertions, but the extended Dieselgate warranty is very clear-cut.

Thanks for the advice. Will be trying to complete the process this evening and will be taking the vehicle in on Monday if i cannot achieve the desired results.

I've been scheduled to have a call with a RCM on Monday and would ultimately like to be able to avoid the service shop at all costs, but after further review of the Dieselgate situation, it would seem that VW is going to want this problem dealt with quickly and quietly. I will report back here for follow-up on my successes and failures in order to theoretically help someone else in the future, and I appreciate all the feedback. This is a great community here and will always be thankful for the no-nonsense words of wisdom.

Did you know to me the CFR's leave interpretation open in many ways & sometimes they are very precise, with such preciseness, they implement to permit any schmuck who reads them before violating them, a clear possible means to circumvent almost all of them with some type of exemption, how about you?

What specific questions or parts about "useful life" do you have or doubt, maybe I can ask the right questions to have you surmise your answers to be aligned with my line of questioning?
