2018 A4 Premium Fault Codes (and a few background questions)

Good morning, i have a B9 A4. My autoscan flagged 3 faults (see below). Some of the faults are denoted "not confirmed" and others have full freeze-frame data. Can anyone explain the difference and logic between unconfirmed and confirmed faults? Additionally, what does the "tested since memory clear" indicate?, does this mean the code was cleared, and the fault has since been detected?

I sure wish VW/Audi would provide a lucid explanation for this terminology, but I don't recall seeing one. One thing you may want to do is run another Auto-Scan with "Use Aggressive Mode" un-checked to compare what faults show then.

Let's go through your list, module by module:

01-Engine:
That fault is flagged "Intermittent - Not Confirmed" and is not reflected in the Gateway status "01-Engine -- Status: OK 0000". To me that means, "Don't worry about it".

03-ABS:
Tire pressure faults. Inflate tires properly (use a quality gauge), then use the procedure in the owner's manual to "learn" / "set" tire pressures. In that car, I would suppose this is done in the MMI menu somewhere. Whether that actually makes those "Intermittent - Not Confirmed" go away is another question.

The Databus fault: At some point, something woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

17-Instruments:
Back on 2018.11.01, a heartbeat message from the 5F module wasn't received. This only occurred once.

19-CAN Gateway:
On 2019.06.28, some message wasn't received from the CCM module at 46. This only occurred once.

46-Cent. Conv:
Another missing message, when the car had a whole 13 km on it.

If this were my car, I'd clear the faults. If there's anything serious going on, the fault code will return. But even if you some stuff like this does come back, I'm going to say that's more-or-less normal these days. The cars are so dang complicated and the software in the modules is so dang fussy that a smattering of such fault codes is almost inevitable. A "normal" owner (one who doesn't have a scan tool) would never know they exist. :)

If this were my car, I'd clear the faults. If there's anything serious going on, the fault code will return. But even if you some stuff like this does come back, I'm going to say that's more-or-less normal these days. The cars are so dang complicated and the software in the modules is so dang fussy that a smattering of such fault codes is almost inevitable. A "normal" owner (one who doesn't have a scan tool) would never know they exist. :)

It's sad when an industry standard has now moved into this type of behavior, gets away with this crap & to help cause a convoluted diagnostic process for vagueness & unjust enrichment?

Wouldn't that give a person that has a factory scanner or VCDS an unfair advantage & to be able to repair cars with information provided the normal public wouldn't be aware of? :rolleyes:

Just doesn't seem fair but life isn't fair now is it?

Sure glad VCDS exists OP huh?
