i need some help to figure this out. Cruise control is not working. Ecm has code p1698 which tells me to check for codes in the steering wheel electronics. no faults in there., if i clear the codes is comes back right away.

Any ideas. thank you

Look at MVB 006 in the ECU while actuating the cruise switches. Each switch on the stalk should produce a change in field 2, as should pressing the brake and the clutch. Hover your cursor over each of the fields to see what they mean.

Actually it just might & since the values for the PSI might be in modification too!

Also try re-coding the 0x16 with same value of Coding: 0000731 to default it but be sure to have VCDS configured with tester number and WSC and importer number.

Seriously, if PSI is coming up or implausible & in a glow, it could run interference for a cruise function!

Many times I have seen throughout the years, someone did FOD tuning and the cruise in a TDI or GAs car was lost and not just coding or by login but by the shear firmware levels loaded being wrong with miss-assigned data.

Steering Wheel Electronics part number and soft coding look valid, no red flags. Is there any back story we need to know about? Not to be insulting.... but is the cruise control turned on?

When I worked at the dealer, every so often would a ticket for cruise control innop. I would take the car for a test drive, turn it on and it worked just fine.... then being the little $4!+ that I am, I'd document CCS working to factory design and then turn it back off and return the car to the customer. :rolleyes:

thanks for everyone input on this. All i know is the when the vehicle was bought it never worked, so now we have it to look at. The glowplug will be taking care of soon. The other thing i should of mentioned is the symbol on the board computer will turn on. When i clear all Faults in the ECM only the p1698 comes back instantly (hard fault). i will try to do the coding and
let you guys know

We occasionally encounter Mk6 (2011+) 2.5L Jetta models where CCS won't work and you have to turn it off and back on again in the 01-Engine module. That's done via the Coding-II/Login-11 function and codes for Cruise Control Deactivation and Cruise Control Activation will appear in a pop-up balloon. Cycling the ignition is needed before you can confirm the letter G disappeared or reappeared.

Although it isn't likely to resolve your problem it can't hurt either. Just make sure to check the mentioned switching before you deactivate and reactivate it in the event this is just a switch problem.
