Had the A4 in for the airbag recall, and requested TSB 2010890/8 be applied.

Leaving the A4 outside tonight, forecast is a low of -17c, will give it a try in the morning.

Here is the latest scan,

Holy crap you mean with flash update that didn't exist? ;)

It's a cold one today here too!

One step forward, a couple back.

The A4 started ok Tuesday morning, slight stumble at first, but smoothed out. Was -19c, and pan heater plugged in.

The rest of the starts in various conditions have been almost flawless, until today.

Have a evap. problem to repair and my old friend P2296 is back.

Better sort that fuel pump issue and possible n80 being stuck open or LDP driver being kaput in ecu or lack of vacuum accumulated for LDP operation from possible faulty PCV or breather failure to atmosphere.

Jack, reading on this a 2296 is circuit high, and don't know it that is to be extrapolated and electrical issue or an actual pressure high. Reading several fixes and some state in the end replaced HPP after all the sensors Was the fix.

Now in the interest of learning know that lash in the cam timing either + Or minus can cause radical pressure changes even though the cam itself is in good shape. Don't know if what I have stated is applicable here or not?

N276 regulator Short to + has to be corrected first, it creates havoc and resonance is always a possible factor, right?

Resonance.......seems to be, hard to describe, the quality in a sound of being deep, full, and reverberating. but present, when cold.

P2296-006.....

it is a sound/ vibration from the hpfp that I thought was a defect, ( a possible sound caused by cavitation ) but could find no supply problem, hence, one of the two reasons to replace the hpfp,

voltage check of supply and return values,

key on and running, found no indicators of an issue.

overlay to regulator next............

It's been a while since my last post,

here's the update:

Overlay gave no positive result

Found a 06 A4 3.2 s-line for parts, bought the ECU, dash cluster and key, swapped to my A4,

four start attempts at various temps. -24c and up to -8c, no pan heater,

no problems noted,

no codes

HPFP noise gone

ECU being replaced

Thanks

Did you read the JPPSG yet here?

Did you submit for all to be reimbursed under warranty?
https://forums.ross-tech.com/showth...uot-JPPSG-quot&p=156577&viewfull=1#post156577

I called Audi Canada and was told I had no warranty left because of the year of the vehicle.

I stressed the fact that obviously there is a emissions problem with my vehicle ( it will not pass readiness, and large deposits of carbon left on the garage floor) based on the fact a TSB exists to clear up the issue I was having and again was told there was no warranty available.

I also stated that from my understanding, the manufacturer would be responsible for the repair because they knew a problem existed back in 2008.

They suggested that I should submit a complaint and because I have owned several vehicles of the Audi brand, and they may do something because of loyalty.

I have read the CPA relating to emission requirements by the manufacturer, and seems to apply to my issue, but the result after the firmware did not totally resolve the issue.

Should I be asking for reimbursement for the cost of the update and would I have any chance at the cost of a ECU?

Also, would I have a better chance of success by submitting the complaint through all avenues such as the EPA, Audi Canada and Audi USA?

Did you read the regulations and see the government penalties that exist and discuss them with your lawyer after making a formal written request of what was said verbally from the OEM & to state what they said in denial to establish it?
I am not a lawyer, however, I would recommend you speak with one to know your rights, right?

It is not like VW-Audi has ever lied to a consumer or government agency, right?

Did you Google VW news yet for scandals?

I am gonna touch on this firmware update thing. I also had a similar experience with the dealer, when firmware update request is mentioned, the dealer seem as if they have no idea what one is talking about..They are always quick to ask you to bring car in and then they will list a number of recommendations, without the firmware issue being mentioned in the recommendations.
So my question is: why can't VCDS be used to do such updates or is it planned for the future?

VCDS is not a pass-thru interface.

Uwe doesn't want to get involved in it to a degree and I don't blame him when a controller fails and gets bricked etc.!

If a controller fails during a factory update & at dealer, they become responsible for it, don't they?

It's more or less an argument avoided with an unhappy consumer.

A good reason to read the JPPSG huh?

It is not currently on the roadmap.

-Uwe-

I support such a road map.

Suspicious huh?

You will find that I have moved more recently in last few years to not doing firmware updates & not before the dealer fails to perform them for free & as they should under warranty and clearly that path has been established, as TFSI has among others demonstrate & becomes as a pattern of FACT, huh?

Funny thing those patterns, almost a ROADMAP, where did I hear that recently so coincidental & fascinating?

While trying to help people with genuine intent this cost me money a few times outside of the bounds of fair play with dealers causing me to refund the customer to avoid an argument after a correction performed & therefore I fired them instantly, however, you don't think I'm going to allow that to continue do you and without calculated, truthful, documented and focused pervasive anger to gain satisfaction for the full collective, well do you?

I have these things called my own moral code of values, I stand up and fight for others first & for what I believe is unfair, this industry and everyone I can that can't, it's just my nature now isn't it?

There is a reason I do all those ABS long coding's you see & that ABS long coding thing really pissed me off and that's 10 years ago!

Want to test my resolve I'm you could say UPSET?

Yeah very different in this part of the world. When I worked for VW Audi group overseas, we did updates free of charge. Regardless of what works order a customer request for example oil change, we hooked the VAS5051B to the car system and required updates were automatically detected and done without the customer's notice or even before software related errors strike-all done free of charge. Oh I remember I live in a capitalist society now..:)

Yeah the cars are far dirtier in EU & even more of them running much more nefarious, right? :p

I have had success with the hard start issue when cold.

Its been a long time coming, but it will be a Quattro winter!

I had a failed attempt on a ECU swap fall of 2019, so the A4 was parked for the winter.

Located another used ECU and had it installed last August.

Have had some -10c mornings and the A4 starts and runs great, HPFP noise is gone, no DTC's, performs like it should.

Just put the winters on, going to have some fun!
