i have a problem with my vcds cable, i has worked good. but since today i cant get windows to recognize the cable, i get the message : "The last USB device you connected to this computer has malfunctioned and windows doesn't recognize it"

i tryed reinstalling VCDS and also remove all usb devices in the device mangement, but without any luck.

Any ideas ?

Try different USB cable; any standard USB-A to USB-B cable (commonly referred to as a "USB Printer" cable) should work.

Also, what is the behavior of the LEDs on the interface?

This is plugged into a car as well? What happens if you just have it plugged into a computer (no car)?

fixed it with a different cable, thanks for the help. is it ok to use a different cable or is it better to use a original vcds ?

It's entirely OK to use a different cable, but the European distributor who sold it (their name should be on it) should be willing to replace the cable for you with one that has a the screw lock like the original one.
