Hello,

Thank you for the forum and the VCDS product. I purchased the original USB cable years ago and it serves me well, how do I become a approved member here?

Now my issue:

Battery does not charge properly, leading to battery depletion over time, i.e. vehicle will not start. Battery is brand new (Varta OEM), same behavior with the older battery. I replaced the battery as it was 6 years old anyway, and was hoping for an easy fix; no luck. I get no battery depletion warnings whatsoever.

Items in Address 19 are my concern.

These faults return immediately despite clearing them.

So far I have checked all the LIN BUS wiring from J533 to J367 and from J533 to alternator/generator. Continuity is ok on those lines. I'm using the proper wiring diagrams for the vehicle.

After starting and just idling I get only 12.5 volt at the generator directly. As soon as I increase RPM a bit and then let it idle again, the alternator puts out 14.3 (even at idle then).

Can anyone shed some light please. :thanks:

Well, if the wiring checks out, it's possible that one of the modules connected to that LIN bus is NFG and causing the "Electrical Fault in Circuit" that the Gateway is reporting.

My guess is broken voltage regulator in generator. Try removing LIN bus wire from generator and see if J533 starts to communicate with J367. Communication status should be seen in CAN gateway MVB 006.

J533 - J367 - Generator all share the same LIN bus and one broken device can pull down the whole bus.

Also, if the problem is at the generator as I suspect, don't go for cheapest chinese aftermarket voltage regulator, they are useless...

Assume it's one of the components, just cannot gamble and replace on suspicion only. Need a way to diagnose further.

Interestingly, via ODIS (I know this is VCDS forum LOL), if I unplug the generator LIN wire, then ODIS recognizes the generator as present, and even tries to run the generator diagnostics (but fails). I need to try unplugging the LIN BUS from the generator again and see what VCDS says then, have not tried that with VCDS. If I don;t get wiser, then perhaps replacing the voltage regulator is the best way forward.

It seems strange to me that one component can pull the everything on that LIN BUS down, but thank you for confirming that this is indeed possible. Hope/pray the faulty component is not the Gateway.

Based on this I decided to replace the voltage regulator (what a nightmare to find the right part within the hundreds of variations Valeo has). I'm not even convinced I have the right part as the part numbers embedded on the regulator don't match, but apparently this supersedes the one I had... It fits perfectly. Are there variations in LIN communication protocols, i.e. incompatibilities?

Bottom line, even with the new voltage regulator, I still get: 02252 - Generator 004 - No Signal/Communication. The other errors are gone though. Valeo part numbers must be the biggest mess produced by mankind.

As I tried to suggest in my previous post, best thing would have been to go visit local Audi dealer and buy a new regulator from them... I bet it will cost more, but it will also be the right part for your car.

Hi , I have just scanned my mk6 2010 1.6 tdi tech golf and had this code come up, I wonder if you may tell me where the wires/part you are talking of are exactly? maybe picture if you could as I have no idea and it sounds technical , one thing I have been noticing is that the start stop is not working as much as it was a few months ago,, the car went in garage for new dual mass fly wheel, the start stop was working fine for a around a week afterwards but has since been hardly cutting in, would this be related?
what and where is the generator located please? any idea how I look to find this fault physically

We'll need to see a full Auto-Scan to be able to help you.

BTW for the wiring diagrams you'll need to logon to ErWin, as they are copyright and cannot be posted here.

If the generator is faulty then the start/stop won't work properly as the battery won't be charged enough for the battery management system to think there is enough battery capacity to safely restart the car.

My problem is very similar, long short story.
Two years ago I brought sharan 2.0tdi 2012, after about one year alternator not charging - replace regulator from vw dealer- problem solved, but in May this year battery blows up. Replace battery ( Varta E39) and coded as new , now not charging again.
Take out alternator and tested, all ok.
Problem is that when engine start, alternator is charging ( 13.8-14.2) but after some driving going to 12.5-12.0
any ideas?

Problem is that when engine start, alternator is charging ( 13.8-14.2) but after some driving going to 12.5-12.0
Once the battery is fully charged, the alternator will stop charging (to avoid gassing due to over charging) so those voltages don't seem too far out to me?

Did you recode the 61 module when the battery was changed? If that wasn't done it will still think you have the old (knackered?) battery fitted.

What isn't working on your Sharan? Does it start reliably?

Yes, I did recoded module 61, battery keep 12.5 V over night and start with no issues, only my worry is about drooping charging current to 12 V, is that ok ?

Properly coded battery

Hello everyone

I just been very curious about this coding using VCDS :popcorn::confused:, in my opinion Ross-Tech should update their database to properly code battery for European users (no offense).
After long searching I found this : https://batteryworld.varta-automotive.com/en-be/car-battery-replacement , maybe some people do not take seriously coding the battery, for me is just the battery as well, but battery Serial Number is ETN number :) , maybe I'm wrong but this what I receive from Vatra :

"Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting the Customer Service Office.
In order to code the battery properly, enter the sequence of 10 digits - 9 digits from the ETN number preceded by the number 0. Battery Serial Number.
The second number of Battery Part Number should be written down from the code, which is stamped (dotted) on the battery, the first 10-11 digits / letters (characters) as much as you will need this introduction."

I guess the second number is on the bottom flange of the battery.
The BEM codes are different to this codes!!!!

No wonder why faults code appear and battery is dying.!

How about you show us what fault codes you have? All you've posted so far is a Gateway Installation List, which doesn't tell us much.

Final update on this thread. I managed to solve the entire problem by replacing with the EXACT CORRECT voltage regulator on the alternator/generator. There are many different versions of the Valeo part, make sure you get the exact replacement.
