This seemingly simple retrofit has turned out to be one of the most problematic in terms of compatibility.

Just posting to get some feedback and other experience if possible.

There are 2 possible scenarios:
1. Retrofit to a car that already has 'max/highline' controllers 5Q0 959 593/592 - this is a plug and play install, just need to update door controller coding and central electrics adaptation to get mirrors to auto fold and unfold with car locking. Have seen this in Golf Rs, R Wagon Wolfburg edition, GTIs.
2. Car has 'min/lowline' controllers 5Q0 959 393/392. These need highline door controllers retrofitted. This is where the problems begin...

Problem:
I had a 2016 ED40 GTI that had lowline controllers in it, with SW 041. I installed highline x593B with software 025. All folding functions worked as did all other expected functions eg turn signal, side assist etc EXCEPT for puddle light, and could not run basic adaptation for window regulator. Therefor window autorun will not work.
Solution: replaced with 5Q0 959 593B controller with SW 041.

Problem:
2014 Golf TSI. Replaced lowline controllers with 5Q4 959 593B with SW 031. All functions work, window regulator adaptation works. However on unlock, the mirrors fold out, then immediately fold back in. When the car is started, mirrors fold out again. There is a fault being recorded against central locking having an open circuit. This would appear to be bogus, as this fault is not evident either with the factory door controllers nor with the abovementioned x593B controller with SW 025 (which has the problem of not being able to run regulator adaptation). Central locking basic settings test passes, and all doors lock and unlock with the keyfob.

Awaiting arrival of some sw 041 593B controllers to hopefully resolve this...



It appears to me that only controllers with SW 041 are able to support the retrofit but the supplier of the 5Q4 modules insists that sw 031 should work.

The only remaining problem I have is with the locking switch on the driver's door. When the head lights are on, this button is illuminated by a white LED. When the door is locked, this changes to an orange LED. When new door controllers are fitted, this no longer changes to orange. Output test confirms that the orange LED works, but it seems there is a coding/adaptation change which is required. I have heard that online ODIS is required for this, is anyone able to confirm?

Here is an autoscan of the Golf TSI with the 5Q4 controllers installed, which has the central locking fault which causes the mirrors to fold after opening:

More frustration...:banghead:

So I tried some more door controllers, this time with version 41 software. I really was hopeful this would be the answer to my problems, but alas.
I installed the controllers, coded and cleared faults.
Behaviour this time:
Right mirror folds as expected when car is locked, and unfolds when ignition is switched on.
Left mirror does the opposite...it folds when the right one unfolds.
Also the front window controls in the driver's door are reversed - push down and window goes up. But rear doors work correctly.

All the suppliers I speak to say that their controller works, just needs to be coded correctly.

I have matched the coding with other cars I have worked on where the highline controllers were factory fitted, and where they were retrofitted, without luck.

I've now tried highline controllers with software versions 25, 31 and 41. All hardware version 20.
There are only 2 things I can think of:
1. The PR codes in the advanced identification. In these sw 41 controllers I got, the PR codes are 0000000000223. In the 5Q4 controllers I got from China, PR code is FFFFFFFFFFFF. Does this do anything? If so can I control it? Pull and reflash the EEPROM?

2. The car originally had a lowline driver's door controller 5Q4 959 393, but the passenger door controller was actually a highline controller 5Q4 959 592. Both with software version 07, hw 06. Buy a matching highline controller with same software and hardware versions.

OK so I can now wrap this thread up.
After waiting for 2 months for a part to arrive, I gave up and got a refund.
Then @Spacewalker was kind enough to send me the same part.

I wanted a 5Q4959593 with sw07 to match the existing highline passenger controller 5Q4959592.
I installed it and the bevaviour was exactly the same as the sw 41 controller...

In frustration I had the owner take the car up to a local dealer. They were happy to try, with no guarantees, and with no appointment. (Another dealer wanted me to book in a month away...)
The tech there used Odis online to do the coding and it fixed the problem! The mirrors folded together, driver's door window regulator adaptation worked and the lock indicator LED behind the switch was behaving correctly!
There is something that ODIS does which wipes or accessed more than VCDS is able to see. He doesn't know what exactly it was and I have no idea either.

The dataset and PR code is the only thing that looks different. The PR code would be the obvious culprit, but when I used some sw 31 controllers, they too had PR code set to FFFFFFFF and this didn't work properly either.

I'm glad that this is all over however I'd like to know what the actual cause of the problem was the VCDS was not able to correct but ODIS was.
Anyone have any ideas?

ODIS reparametrized the door control unit. These door modules are in every MQB based car like Audi A3, Mk7, Seat Leon, Skoda Octavia, 2 doors, 4 doors... A lot of important data is stored in the dataset which cannot be altered with VCDS.

I had an A3 8V with retrofitted foldable mirrors and changed the front door modules. Everything worked but it had the EPB warning light on with the new module.

Just extremely frustrating not having known what the problem was and assuming it was just a compatibility issue.
