I have researched this and I have checked the wires that I can get to while the compressor is still in the car and they all seem good. My questions are, should I purchase a new compressor or is there something else that I should be looking at?

Hello,

Posting a complete vehicle Auto-Scan would be very helpful.... ;)

Assuming the aforementioned "car" is a 2003 to 2007 Audi A8/A8L, before buying a new compressor, I would suggest to check the "N111-Solenoid for level control system" for internal resistance, if it is Open, no resistance, then you will most likely have to replace the Air Supply unit, unless you can find a new/used N111?

If the N111 has some resistance (not too sure on the specs?), check the two pins for the N111 at the J197-Level Control controller for the same resistance. If needed repair or overlay new wires from the J197 to the N111.

Just for informational purposes, the N111 is part of the "Air Supply Unit" (Left side, behind the front bumper) and contains:
  • V66-Level Control System Compressor Motor
  • G290-Level Control Pump Temperature Sensor
  • N111-Solenoid for level control system

As always, we strongly encourage to use the Official Factory Repair manuals when working on these vehicles.

Thanks for the reply, I will post a scan tomorrow if all goes well. Yes this is an 05 A8, I can't seem to find if the N111 is attached to the air supply or is it a separate unit?

Great new DrPeter!
I was able to fix my issue with N111, wire was pinched in the wheel well. I was wonder if you could look at this last scan of my car that I did and tell me what you think. I know I have a short in the parking light, and I disconnected the sunroof louver motor. (was making a grinding sound) Where would I start with the "00668 - Supply Voltage Terminal 30" code that I am getting on #5 and #25?

Hi there... Nice find! Thank you for the feedback!! Much appreciated!

So if you look closely at the the "Supply Voltage" fault codes, they are listed as "Intermittent" and I would just clear the fault codes and see if they come back. In addition the the suggestions on the Ross-Tech wiki page linked below, you may want to check the condition of the battery and the output of the alternator.

If you do not find anything that could be related to the fault code above and there are no symptoms, you could just monitor the vehicle over time and ignore the fault codes for now.

All the info helps, getting ready to take her out on a 4 hour drive scanned it before I left no codes. I have my CPU with me and if any codes come up on the drive I will see what is going on. Also I was going to tell you that one of the tools that I used to find the fault was a signal tone reader, hook it up to the plug in at the compressor and followed the tone. It worked great! Again thanks for the help!
