So, I've recently upgraded to a Q3 Sportback 2021 (from a Q3 2019), and I somehow managed to miss the electronic child lock (it only has the window opening lock). Now, I'm looking to retrofit it.
I know from the vehicle specification that it comes with QQ2 (Ambient Lighting package plus), and 4H3 (Manual child safety lock), and we need to retrofit 4H5 (electrically operated child lock).
Given the above, we will be looking at the following WD Rear left door , (L0L),(4H5),(4H3),(QQ1),(QQ2) as follows:
- Wiring DIFF (screenshot)
- Autoscan DIFF (screenshot)
- Positioning (screenshot)
Steps:
1. Buy a window switch regulator: 83A 959 851 C NV6 (PR QJ1+4H5 meaning driver side, chrome package, electrically operated child lock, black color)
2. Rewire both door lock units (driver/passenger side) as per the wiring diagram, as follows:
-- 1 to 3
-- 2 to 4
-- 3 to 5
-- 4 to 6
-- 6 to 8
-- 5 to 7
3. Remove the following wires (can just pull them out the connector, until finishing the retrofit)
- T8l/1
- T8l/2
4. Open VCDS, controllers BB and BC (rear doors, driver and passenger side), go to Long Coding and check whatever you need to update, given the following diffs:
// driver side
-- BB with-child lock -- 000E99004000008000001020
-- BB non-child lock -- 000E19004000000000001000
// passenger
-- BC with-child lock -- 000E99004000008000001020
-- BC non-child lock -- 000E19004000000000001000
I'm pretty much sure we need to the long coding within the driver's door control unit, so here's the diff between both codings (same HW 5Q0 959 593 F). Adaptation channels are exactly the same on all units.
-- 42 with-child lock -- 001E9B005000008000011030
-- 42 non-child lock -- 001E1B005000000000001000
There's one thing I'm really not able to figure out yet, as you can see from the autoscan diff, the control units are the same on both 8W1 959 595 D.
Problem is their software differs, 8W1 959 595 D (with child lock) vs 5Q0 959 595 K (without child lock) the K at the end can be ignored I think, as it's due different MY, as the it can be seen throughout the entire car.
So, I've looked online, but how does one know that if I order the same two units, they'd come with 8W1 instead of 5Q0 which I'd guess is the difference between being able to process the child lock commands or not.
** Those who don't have ambient lighting package QQ1 or QQ2 are not able to do this retrofit as you will not have the door control units, since the lock unit connects directly to the BCM as can be seen in this screenshot
