Good afternoon all from Summer in Ireland, where the rain is still warm.
I'm looking for a steer before I get the spanners out. The above vehicle is reporting fault code 00778, mechanical failure of the steering angle sensor. This is the type where it's built into the steering rack and not the steering column. It has history with the steering angle sensor as when the car was bought the dash was lit up like a Christmas tree. A new steering column control sorted most of the warning lights and a calibration of the steering angle sensor put out the TPMS and ESP warning lights. But now, some three months later, the TPMS and ESP lights are back on and the scan shows mechanical failure. The steering wheel also is no longer pointing dead ahead either. It's about a couple of degrees out clockwise. It did rip a tyre from a protruding fallen tree branch but not enough to damage the steering components but I cant be sure the jolt wasn't behind the current issue. Nothing is obviously out of whack, other than the steering wheel.
Before I tear everything down anyone had experience of this code and or working on this type of steering rack?
