But maybe someone else can chime in lol, i have a cluster and i am Curious where the soft codes are held is it in the Eeprom? Im just trying to learn about all this out of curiosity and not to profit i promise lol like if you pull the eeprom .bin and view it is there a map to tell you at what addresses particular fuctions are at like soft code and coolant temp gauge, fuel gauge ect.... thank you for your help i wanna learn this because i am a curious person and love to know how my cars work, my motorcycles and stuff i have learned but audi web searches its like a big ole secret on cars like my C5

Yeah, I would expect it's in EEPROM.

But couldn't tell you where to look for anything in there. That's something that's never been particularly relevant to what we do.

Its nothing VCDS related...
Just an idea for Your reverse engineering studies:
1) make a bench setup for your module under investigation;
2) read current state with VCDS and current state EEPROM dump
3) make coding changes with VCDS (one at a time) and reed EEPROM after each single bit changed. Compare dumps. Then You will discover exact address range and values where and how coding is stored in EEPROM
