Morning all,

Does anybody know if it's possible to know if a gearbox has component protection?

Currently working on a golf GTE (2016) that has gearbox pressure (P0867) There is a TPI suggesting in short the gearbox needs replacing. This is a huge undertaking as the Engine and gearbox needs to come out, a new box is so expensive that it will financially write the car off so looking at used options but not sure if the CP will be on it.

thanks in advance

Picko

MQB boxes generally have CP.

Ah that’s a nightmare. Any workaround? Or have VAG managed to block people from using used parts ☹️

You can check easily if it uses CP.
Just check adaption for things like "IKA" and "GFA", this are the 2 things which are needed for CP

Thanks for all the replies! I’ll check that out AINils 👍 actually looking like it just the mechatronics after spending a little more time on it. Now just need to try and find someone who might repair it.

Did you get this fixed, was it the mechatronics - did you replace it or have it repaired?

Hi mate, yes got it sorted. It was the mechatronic, it is component protected got a mate at VW to do the coding. Got a new unit from Sussex Autos they are spot on down there. It’s easy enough to fit. Let me know if I can help with anything else, like to post fixes as well as problems 😉

Yes, always good to know the fix. Did you have to remove the charger unit to get it out or was there enough wiggle room? Did Sussex Autos supply you with a new, used, or refurbished mechatronics unit?

Hi Jerry, yes I did. So think the best thing is to jump on Elsa online and download the remove/refit it will talk you through the whole thing. It was a new unit from SA. Replaced all bolts as they are TTY and locking tab for the filler bottle. I isolated the system via the emergency responders switch on the bulk head (it was very stiff) then checked with an test light that the system was decommissioned.

Hi picky,

It is a very useful info. Can I ask, the faut was permanent or intermittent?

Thanks,
Mine can drive till even 300kms without any problem, then I get a fault message to the dashboard, and the same DTC. Sometimes I get the fault after 10kms.

Hmm, its unfortunate but I suspect you’re going to need a replacement mechatronics.
