I have a 2010 Jetta 5 speed with 2.5 engine needing a new (used) ABS module. I can't seem to find one that will work. I definitely have been unable to find the part number that is in the car, which is 1k0907379AS. There are so many variations of these modules and I have ordered two off ebay now, one wouldn't plug in and the other wouldn't code. Does anyone know what part numbers will fit this application?

The car:
Original ABS module = 1K0 907 379 AS
-stabilization=yes
-traction control=yes
-hill hold=no

I have tried car-part.com with no help, just need to get this lady going (my neighbor)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

2010 Jetta MK60EC1 module needed, can't find right part number

You do realize this is a free repair under safety recall, right & if module, see NHTSA?

Did you verify the tracks to sensor, it's only two wires and what about the ABS sensor, is it correct part and working?

Jack,
You said the same thing last time I posted about this. I called Volkswagen back then, first the dealer, then the main VW customer care. I told them what the shop had diagnosed and asked for goodwill or safety repair help. They told me no. I asked to talk to a manager for an appeal. The regional manager called me back in a couple days and flat out told me no, the car is out of warranty, no help from VW.

Do you know something that will change this?

Did you see I asked the same or similar questions for a reason?

Did you contact NHTSA yet or EPA as a governing authority?

Pardon me, however, are you dismissing me or my methods because you are dealing with idiots?

Hey WTF is this?

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2016/RCONL-16V913-2761.pdf

Did the dealer and people you spoke too put those aforementioned alleged statements in writing?

I just love asking the right questions to gain insight what about you?

I found that recall too and I asked the regional manager about it and she, as well as the dealer, informed me that this vehicle is NOT covered by that recall. I did not try to contact NHTSA or EPA on this, there is only so much time I can devote to helping someone else out.

Maybe if I get real motivated on this or can't find a simple resolution myself I will try to force more action out of the carmaker.

Anyway, thank you for your help with the part numbers, that I what I needed, much appreciated.

Did they deny it in writing, say an e-mail with date and time stamp, the Government loves those when it comes to enforcement to levy a "tremendous" a "beautiful" "perfect" penalty?

Just what & how have "you" tested to condemn the module, enquiring minds want to know?

Hello,

It is important to note that most if not all recalls have an "Affected Vehicles" statement:

Affected Vehicles | Certain 2009-2010 MY Volkswagen Vehicles
Check Campaigns/Actions screen in Elsa on the day of repair to verify that a VIN qualifies for repair under this
action. Elsa is the only valid campaign inquiry & verification source.
  • Campaign status must show “open.”
  • If Elsa shows other open action(s), inform your customer so that the work can also be completed at
the same time the vehicle is in the workshop for this campaign

So if your not on the list (vehicle must qualifies for repair), then your vehicle was not affected by the "Safety Recall Code: 45F2" - "ABS Control Module Software"

It is ONLY "Certain 2009-2010 MY Volkswagen Vehicles" that do qualify for repairs under the 45F2

Hope it all works out...

drpeter

ps... In the above, I am not agreeing with VW's decision or actions, I personally think a software flash to fix this kind of concern was a 'cheap' way out to fix these failing ABS controllers.

Does this mean you are for the firmware update as a cheap way for VAG to address the electronics issues or are you against the actual firmware update and is it not enough to repair cars with this problem within range of production?

Puzzling funny right, normally production Vin range's are specified on TSB or campaign such as this no?

If you take the car to the dealers they will want to replace the sensor and then the wheel bearing and then test the wiring and at that point find the fault is a broken wire and you will get billed for it all as they will say it was all required.

And no chance of warranty on a broken wire on a 10 year old car. That’s how it would work in my part of the world. It’s interesting that in the US that a manufacturer can possibly be made to take responsibility long term for a safety related system even though it’s parts will fail over time. Just like any thing else. In Europe they won’t even take responsibility for the mk60 pressure sensor fault that is clearly a design flaw.

It’s very common for the wiring to fail inside the insulated section under the wing and there is a repair section of cable with a new plug that you can solder in to the harness in the engine bay so the soldered joint is in a nice dry place. It is very easy to test two wires. Not just with a dmm though, it’s best to load them up with some amps. A headlight bulb works well.
Access to the plug on the module is the hardest bit as it’s behind the battery tray.

Hi,

No, I am not a fan of the firmware update, because....

We have seen a lot of issues with these ABS controllers and when applicable, the firmware update does not seem to really fix a lot of these vehicles, they typically eventually end up needed an new/replacement ABS controller anyway.

Now, we do not of course see the majority of the vehicles, so I can not be too judgmental and the firmware maybe an acceptable fix in many cases. Personally, I would rather replace the controller with a new unit, than to flash it, based on my experience with the failure rate of the older controllers.

Puzzling funny right, normally production Vin range's are specified on TSB or campaign such as this no?

- Right, and yes, sometimes the VINs or a VIN range do get published in the campaigns/recalls or an attachment. In this case, I suspect that there were a few of vehicles that had these exact controllers installed and a VIN range could not narrow it down. I have also seen lists of VINs too, in this case I bet there were too many to print!

The dealership can use ELSA to view all the applicable recalls and campaigns for a VIN. One could ask the dealership to "see" or print this page. It is not hard and even a service tech has access. They need to select the "Campaigns/Actions" on the right menu, after they have entered the VIN into ELSA. Once they do that a 'popup' will appear and show the details for all the applicable recalls and campaigns. This will show a status, either "OPEN" or "CLOSED" for each service listed, if any.

Hope this add clarity to my thoughts,

drpeter

Ok, closing up here. Thanks again to Jack for the help with the part numbers I needed. I ended up installing a 1K0907375AS that I got off ebay for $50. I was able to bleed it, program it and set the basic settings. Problems solved! Great news to the owner of the car and I didn't even charge her any labor, another win for the people!
Cheers,
Noah
