Hello all. A bit past the point of frustration so I am hoping you all can help me with this retrofit.
2012 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen 2.5L SE
RNS510 (Revision E)
Purchased an OEM backup camera retrofit kit but I cant get it to work.
I did remove the camera cap.
I did select the backup camera option using VAG-COM. 'Back-Up Camera Low (without Control Module) installed' was my only option.
I did reset the radio using the <>* buttons after I selected the back up camera option.
I just get a black screen when I put it in reverse. I then checked and rewired the power and backup camera lights a few times just in case I made an error.
Voltmeter shows me 12V from the red power cable and 11.8V from the blue reverse light. This is measured at the rear camera where the connector plugs in when the vehicle is on and reverse lights on.
What I found odd was that my ground (brown wire) also shows me 12v when I check it. Some searches I conducted said this was normal but my father said I shouldn't see any voltage on a ground. I'm not an electrician though but I thought that was true as well. Should I see power on a ground wire? The ground wire is completely separated from the rest of the wires so if that's the problem it must be a short in the harness connector... I would think.
