I had the windshield replaced last winter but did not unplug the camera. Just recently we get a malfunction every time we turn the car on This is the only error I am getting. I have checked all the connections and mounting of the camera. If there any way I can "reload" an initial calibration? Where did the calibration go? This is driving me nuts trying to figure it out.

Hello,

The Official Factory Repair Information, under the "Driver Assistance Systems Front Camera Calibrating" section, explains the use of the Special tools (VAS6430+) with an alignment rack (Audi test plan/software loaded in the alignment computer) is used for the proper calibration the R242 and its components. This is done on for safety and liability reasons.

It is not recommend to perform these calibrations without the special tools, training and test plans due to potential errors that could be made. The precision that is required for this calibration is necessary for the safety, not only the occupants of this vehicle but others on the road.

To answer the other question, the controller was most likely designed to drop/erase the 'last calibration values' for the reason that if any component is replaced, the calibration could be out of specifications. Once again, the manufacture is doing this for safety and liability reasons.

Hope this helps,

drpeter
