2003 Audi A4 Convertible 3.0 CVT Trans

I original had the following 3 Transmission Problems/Codes

3 Faults Found:
17114 - Gear Ratio Monitoring
P0730 - 16-10 - Incorrect Gear Ratio - Intermittent
17100 - Transmission Input Speed Sensor (G182)
P0716 - 35-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
17106 - Transmission Output Speed Sensor (G195)
P0722 - 35-10 - No Signal - Intermittent

I sent my TCM out for repair. The Module Repair Company suggested along with this specific repair, that I should also replace both the input and output Sender wheels in the trans.

I sent out my TCM to the Module Repair Company for repair and while I was waiting for it to come back, I replaced both sender wheels with new OEM ones.

After re-installing my repaired TCM module from the Module Repair Company, along with my new sender wheels, My Ross-Tech Vag.com is saying that I have 2 new Faults

Engine Fault: 18032. Mil request signal active. (Check TCM for errors) P1624 - 008 readiness 0000 0001
Trans Fault: 17101 trans input speed sensor G182 P0717 35-00 No Signal

The VCDS Measuring Blocks, for Group 007 Transmission Input RPM G182 values are jumping around from valid values (of something similar to current rpm like 1260/min.) to invalid values of (0/min.) and then back to a valid value.

There is a slight chance that when the input code values are equal to 0 and I hit the breaks, a valid value appears for a short period of time, I'm not sure if this is coincidence or not.

I checked and cleaned the 25 pin oval TCM plug.

The Trans Fluid level has been checked at 40 degrees Celsius with a torpedo level on the pan.

I have attempted the TCM Adaptation procedures although I could not get ADP Run to Change to ADP OK, no matter how many times I performed the Adaptation procedures

The car funs fantastic, lots of torque, lots of high speed power etcÂ… but the check engine light is on because of engine fault 18032 P1624.

The biggest problem is I canÂ’t get a valid state inspection with that Check Engine Light.

So, as suggested by the Module Repair Company, I took the TCM out again and sent it back to them so that they could install a new G182 sensor on the TCM. At that time, I also removed the previously installed G182 sender wheel and replaced it with another new one ($90.00 each, $180.00 total) just in case the last new one was defective.

When I got my TCM back with the new G182 sensor, I put it back in and I'm still getting the same 2 fault codes (18032 P1624 and 17101 P0717)

I have cleared the codes and I cant drive 50 feet without getting Trans Code 17101 P0717 and shortly after that I get Engine Code 18032 P1624 along with the Illuminated Check Engine Light on the Dash.

The Module Repair Company says to send the TCM back to them again, and they can try and put another G182 sensor on it but I really donÂ’t want to drop it again if thatÂ’s not the problem and they didn't sound convinced on the phone that it is.

Any thoughts?

bump... I may have not installed my G182 input Sender Wheel properly.... Are there any tips for this? Exactly how far does it need to go on the input shaft to be installed properly?

Jack, Do you actually believe that the answer you posted above is helpful? In my opinion, this post is just as bad if not worse than the last time you attempted to help me by requesting me to run and post a full scan and then did not offer any additional info once I did so.

I think making duplicate posts are not helpful but yup my answer actually was!
Here it is in case you missed it.....

The fact you stated the sensor is hitting leaves no belief the problem is related to wiring unless you have compounded the problem with induced FOD!

RTFB can be had here.......

17101/P0717/ - Transmission Input Speed Sensor (G182): No Signal or not found!

Possible Symptoms

  • Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) ON
  • Transmission in Limp Mode
Possible Causes

  • Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Transmission Input Speed Sensor (G182) faulty
  • Transmission Input Speed Sensor (G182) faulty
  • – Read measured value block, refer to RTFB group 3 or 38 for CVT when 01J
Sensor wheel in transmission has become detached or is faulty.

    Possible Solutions

  • Check Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to Transmission Input Speed Sensor (G182)
  • Check/Replace Transmission Input Speed Sensor (G182)
  • Replace transmission. Refer to Continuously Variable Transmission in RTFB
Special Notes

Transmission input speed (RPM) sensor -G182- is integrated in the TCM -J217- and can only be replaced as a unit along with the TCM.

Note on DTC 17101 / P0717:
Condition for DTC recognition: The TCM recognizes short term input RPM which is less than or equal to 1 RPM and simultaneously an output RPM which is higher than 100 RPM.

Jack Ass..... Your Mother named you appropriately...

Just so you know, I've been in the German Auto Repair business in the same neck of the woods as you since the early 1980's...I'm in Northern NJ, Jess Jones Porsche Audi, Paul Miller, Geronimos Performance etc.... just to name a few...

I don't do transmissions and as such, I was just looking for a little assistance... I don't need a lecture on what my post is missing or where I should technically post it...

This was the first time I have ever attempted to get help from an Audi forum and it was only because I do not do transmissions.

Because of Idiots like you who are Full of themselves it will be my last....

I have seen your answers to other peoples post... You are a joke and a detriment to communities and forums like this.....

I'm so glad that we are so geographically close, It will be my pleasure to discuss with my clients and people in our industry what an asshole you really are.

You Get What You Give!

How do you like me now Jack Ass?

I like you more but you sure are impatient Lisa!

I embrace the definition of asshole but if you cant see I'm trying to help you and if you are in the business maybe you should leave if not understanding an itty bitty speed sensor .........you know, they are used in the engine, ABS and everywhere else in the car?

We should have coffee!

Oh Lisa.............

While you been throwing a tantrum I updated notes in DTC.........

I'm having this strange feeling of induced additional FOD & since you been around the block as you aforementioned, "used abused and never chosen" & like since the 80's as I have been, did you forget this tool called a Torque wrench and maybe over tightened the multi-tronic unit like many have due to your superior skills learned at those places you once worked?
