What kind of skills are required to use VCDS effectively? I'm 74, a little old to be crawling under cars, so diagnosing problems and having a local shop do most of any repairs is the plan - is that realistic?

I recently bought a Passat GLS 4Motion wagon with 1.8T motor for a 2nd vehicle, we also have a 2015 1.8T sedan.

Lots of people own and use VCDS as primarily as a means of keeping others who are actually doing the wrenching on their cars honest -- or simply helping them out if the facility that's doing the wrenching is not a VW specialist and doesn't have VCDS themselves.

Rudimentary computer skills are required, but since you've managed to join this forum and post here, I'd guess you have those.

One last stupid question, I sold my Rialta. I no longer have a use for my VCDS interface or software. Can I resell it?

You own it, so of course you can sell it.

However, there a couple of caveats for the new owner. These are covered in our FAQ entry 3.10 at the bottom of this page. Bottom line: The new owner will have full use of the product, but doesn't get any support unless he pays to become a registered user.
