Cannot get J400 LINBus wiper setup to show under 09 on a PQ35 BCM

Color coded some parts.

If I start entering guesses in to the BCM via VCDSm what are the changes that I'll brick the BCM..? I guess my next step it to methodically work my way through, and hope it's not a crazy combination of changes that would make it. work.

Keep away from byte 18, don't touch that one. Otherwise I don't think there's a chance of bricking the thing.

Thanks :-) I've experimented with Byte 18 a little ages ago, basically between two regions, and the USA one is the correct one for my taillights. Now I'm nervous that it could have taken out the Pin 33, haha.

The difference between BINs on Byte 21 from the USA to EU Caddy seem substantial.. The 20 HEX is the outlier, so I suppose have a guess of 6F makes the most sense.

I'm going to go back to my day job for a moment, and see if anyone has any input on guessing the Byte 21 to 6F idea, before I give it a go.

I couldn't stay away..

Byte 21

Bit 0 - Rear wiper insalled
Bit 2 - Auto rear window wiping with front wiper at interval
Bit 3 - Auto rear window wiping with front wiper at permanent
Bit 4 - Tear Drop wiring from rear wiper
Bit 5 - Rain/Light Sensor Installed
Bit 6 - Auto rear window wiping with reverse gear.

I don't have a rear wiper installed.

HEX 80 - nothing checked on helper
HEX 4F - 0,2,3,6 checked on helper
HEX 6F - 0,2,3,5,6 checked on helper
HEX 6D - 0,2,3,5,6 checked on helper
HEX 20 - 5 checked on helper (I presume no rear wiper installed)

so it looks like 20 is the closest to my setup, when taken from another Caddy's coding (2017, owned by someone doing tweaks, from thread http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthread.php?13867).

When I uncheck Bit 5 (Rain/Light Sensor installed) from HEX 20, it changes it to 00, which I think I've already tried. Will try both 20 and 00 and 02.

And... nothing. No J400 populating, and no reaction anywhere else.

does anyone know if pasting a full coding in 09 on PQ35 will also affect byte 18?
if not, then you could just try copy pasting a full code of one of those 2017 caddys in there and see what happens...

I'm starting to really wonder if:

1 - The control units need to be 'hard reset' to have the J400 populate. Is that a known thing?

2 - The 5K0937087AE is simply wired for the V216 relay wipers and won't work with the J400 LINBus wipers.

All the later Highline Caddy 2k seem to use: 5K0937087AC (confirmed from years 2011-2015, with both TSI and TDI engines). I've asked a US dealer friend to cross reference to see if anything here came with one. I might try to get a used one, or can order new in the USA if I really have to. Blah.

I could do that, and just manually edit the byte 18 I guess.

Just to check

J400, located in Plenum chamber. goes like:

T4 connector T4p,

T4p/1 to SB19 - terminal 30 - 2,5mm2
T4p/2 GND - 2,5mm2
T4p/3 empty
T4p/4 T52b/33 (LINbus, same as for example RLS)

double check wiring? GND is OK, 12V is OK and LIN is connected.

Good question :-)

Yes, wiring is confirmed, and I tested the motors on another USA car with the older style BCM and they instantly worked.

I have one used motor setup from a Touran, and one brand new OEM single motor setup from a Caddy. Both worked on a 2009 GTI that I used to test them with, and neither populate on my Caddy.

ETKA is showing that the BCM I have was indeed fitted to European Caddy 2K, but with a different suffix perhaps.

It looks like I would need 8IM (Xenon) and 9AA (manually controlled heating system), which would mean a 5K0937087 AE Z1A.

ETKA based on my VIN is showing that I have a 5K0937087 AE Z02, with the only other USA revision being Z01. All USA Passat BCM are Z01, Z02, or Z2L revisions.

I wonder if that could be software updated...?

I'll admit that I've not really dived into whole sections of the software before unfortunately, so I can't find where you are finding the ENG labelled code.

I just ran a controller channel map for 09- for both Measuring Values and Adaptations, but can't decipher the outputs.

EDIT: Trying the output in CSV instead. Will report back.

You won't see the ENG identifiers on a non-UDS module, that's expected. You still might see a wiper-related channel/description, though. I don't have a PQ35 BCM map handy to check myself.

That's exactly what we're looking for, but it'd be a lot easier to interpret if you could post the PLB or CSV output as text instead of an image. Just like you posted your Auto-Scans earlier.

Well, to try throwing some parts at it, I bought a used 5K0937086L from a Tiguan with J400 wipers on eBay. I received it today, and there's zero communication on 09- via VCDS. The module seems to be working already, as I'm getting the normal light warnings, the windshield washer motor runs, etc etc, but no communication. And no activity on the wiper motor at all.

I feel massively defeated. My thought process was that if this 086 module worked with the J400 wiper motor, then I would spent the money from a new Caddy 2K highline module from Europe, in the expectation that it would work with the wipers, and also the Xenons etc.

Deflated and defeated. Urgh. I've literally built a car with every single bolt, screw, washer, nut, and everything else, and it's the damn windshield wipers that are keeping me from driving it. I'm approaching the point where I start thinking about learning how to build a LINBus adapter, and program it to work from the original 12 volt system. Or just physically banging my head against the wall for a while.

The module seems to be working already, as I'm getting the normal light warnings, the windshield washer motor runs, etc etc, but no communication. And no activity on the wiper motor at all.

Is it maybe one of the types that need to see the doors unlocked to answer diagnostic requests?
