Hello
My first post on this forum. I have an 08 Rabbit with the 2.5 litre 5 cylinder engine which keeps setting a P0411 Secondary Air insufficient flow fault. This has now come back to me 3 times, first time we found the plastic air pipe from the air pump to the combi valve leaking, so we replaced it. Next time we suspected a possible fault with the combi valve (even though it seemed to test /work okay) so we replaced it.
Now it's back again!
I have tested the air pump both with the output test function of VCDS and jumping the relay. I have tested the combi valve with the output test of the VCDS and while testing it I jumped the air pump relay to get the air pump working and then went back to the tail pipe to check any air flow there. So there is some flow there, but not as much as blows out of the air pipe from the air pump once it is disconnected from the combi valve (which really moves a LOT of air).
So I am wondering how much restiction there is in the passages in the cylinder head.
I have a similar car here which I can do some back to back testing against and thought I could compare the MAF data in MVB 002 block 4 to see how much change in airflow I get when the sec air pump turns off.
The trouble is it is hard to hear the sec air pump functioning once the engine is started cold and is running at it's higher idle after start up.
So my question after all this (thanks if you're still reading this) is: Is there a MVB block which indicates the sec air pump is switched on/off. Perhaps one of the blocks with BIN BITS in it?
Any help would be appreciated

So my question after all this (thanks if you're still reading this) is: Is there a MVB block which indicates the sec air pump is switched on/off. Perhaps one of the blocks with BIN BITS in it?
I don't see anything like that, at least not documented.

However, based on what I do see documented, I'd expect MVB 077.3 to change when the pump is on.

I had a look at that block in both cars. The good car started at 100% and changed to 1.6% within aboout 20-30 seconds (bear in mind the time of day is midday, not first thing in the morning now)
The problem car stays at 100% all the time.
Interesting but I do not know what that indicates?

Yes this ecu is ME7.1.1 and supports bin bit tests in the upper 200 series basic settings channels in addition to the direct test in 077 as Uwe aforementioned.

Address 01: Engine (CBT) Labels: 06A-906-032-BGP.lbl
Part No SW: 07K 906 032 BJ HW: 07K 906 032 Q
Component: 2,5l R5/4V G 1567 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< FIRMWARE update needed to address this issue 3072 or higher

The test in this controller will not flip a bit until the CAT test is completed in 046 "usually".
Sounds like you have a restrictive port ........do the update and see if it fixes it for you.

Report back .....

Updating an ECU is generally not a DIY... ;)

-Uwe-

Yes correct Uwe sorry.

OP I can help by you sending me your ecu for a fee or you could see if the dealer will do it for free being real close to end of warranty for you first and if they won't please report back to me as I'd be happy to help if possible.

Thanks for the suggestions and input. The customer has now taken the car away as she needs it to pick up kids, so I will hopefully be able to do more testing in the next few weeks. I have an Autologic with VW support so might be able to update it with that OR might send it to my buddy at the Stealership

Auto-illogical?
This tool?

Yeah I have a great picture of this tool at AAPEX years ago displaying factory pirated tools on the touch screen from BMW and Benz....with the Keygen on the desktop!

You might be very surprised what a few squirts of oven cleaner will do down the intake port, then compressed air and water, then more compressed air.

Scrubbing bubbles..........with better living through chemistry by means of sodium hydroxide!

Safety first.......

Jack, always thought oven cleaner smelled and acted a lot like paint stripper, and works pretty much the same, IMO.

Would a little Drano be in order also?, LOL, great tip though.

Merry Christmas.
