The A/C has stopped producing cool air quite recently however the red a/c light on the switch panel behaves as normal,
lighting when a/c is on and extinguishing when it is off, so I'm thinking the problem is not the low pressure sensor in front of the radiator.
Nor are there any related fault codes on the scan.

I have looked at the output test on module 08 Auto HVac and find that the current reading with engine running fluctuates between about 0.700 and zero, which I believe is not what it should do.
The absolute pressure shown before starting the engine is about 6.0 bar but it only climbs a very little with engine running- to about 7.4ish and is seen to rise and fall with the current-i.e. falls when current drops to zero and rises when current returns to about 0.700.

Are there other tests I can do with vcds?

I looked for a security code in this module but none popped up in a bubble, so I assume that I cannot make an adaptation map to post here.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I took the car in to my A/C workshop today and they extracted only a small amount of gas and then recharged it and added oil and dye in case there is a leak. for now, it works, but they want to look after a month or so to check for any leak.
With any luck, I may have escaped without the need to replace the compressor.

for giggles clean under the high and low side shraders, then watch it over a few weeks and see if any residue shows up indicating one of them is leaking off slowly. Nobody likes leaks but not uncommon to have a tiny leak in a unit that bleeds off over time thus making the system inoperative. Would be curious if this has ever been recharged since new in 2011, and might ask how much it was down from the shop if they recorded it when they pulled it down. Only have to be off a few ounces for a system to default.

Larry, I shall do that. I suspect that there has been a very slow loss of pressure over time.
The system has not been re-pressurised since I bought it in late 2014.

Boy, one caviate when a system is sucked down and tested for hold is,--- if you think of it, the shrader which you are testing through is now open, meaning you are testing the system beyond the shrader, and that system might be tight.

When post is removed from shrader that shrader closes on a rubber O-ring ( usually) and that part of the system was not tested. So this many times is where the leak is. Also depending on the leak if you think of it, it might hold under vacuum, I.E. meaning any comprimised area might actually seal tighter when pulled in, but might actually leak when pushed out under pressure, and AC is tested under pull not push, but lives under push @ pressures in the 300psi range.

Have got hit with this on intercoolers as would only leak under pressure and heat, but would pass tests with pressure and cold.

This is why I said keep an eye on the shraeder, and if leak is small enough the problem might not visit you for a couple years, or not at all.

The invoice for diagnosing and recharging noted that they pulled out only 150g of gas and put in 450g of gas, oil and dye.
All is working fine now, but I shall keep an eye on the Schrader valves.
Fans certainly seem to be OK.
