So, hypothetical question ...

Well, the transmission shifts fine ... hot or cold. So it looks like the TCM is fine. I may try the Jetta CANbus again now that I've resolved the transmission fault.

So, hypothetical question: If I tried switching to a 2008 Jetta CCM ... how easy would it be to switch BACK to the Passat CCM? ... I don't want to burn my bridges or lose invaluable or irretrievable coding. From what I've read, switching out the CCM in a B6 Passat is a REAL pain!

Once again, the parts are returnable ... so it wouldn't cost me anything (other than time to remove them) to obtain the parts.

I think your main problem is rest of the car still Passat and do not except ABS coding.

2010 Engine came with MED17 ECU and ABS mk60EC1, So I think only way to fix this is to go with MED17 ECU and ABS mk60EC1.
Only thing with this set up is that ABS mk60EC1 will be little trick to code it , as they code to platform of the car and VIN. But I am sure someone here will be able to get right coding.

Not just the platform of the car and the VIN but lots of other details such as brake-booster size. MK60EC1 coding is a big mess.

Well, today I reinstalled the Jetta J533 CANbus ... then I cleared all the faults and modified some of the settings (Station Wagon instead of Sedan, etc). I then did an Auto-Scan and the only faults I had were:

1. Address 25: Immobilizer Cannot be reached (probably because it was looking for the Immo in the Passat Instrument cluster) Although in the Installation List under 25 - Immobilizer it says: "Status OK 0000" ... I thought that was odd.

2. Address 03: ABS Brakes 1 Fault Found: 00474 - Control Module for Immobilizer 004 - No Signal/Communication (notice there doesn't appear to be any "Module incorrectly coded" fault ... does that mean that if not for the immobilizer ... the ABS might work?)

3. My previous radio "no satellite" codes

4. There's no "Address 6D: Trunk Elect." category ... not sure why, I'll have to check the CCM.

4. Notice also that it's now listed as a 1k (Jetta) chassis (instead of Passat 3C0) because of the Jetta CANbus. So now I show a Jetta 1k chassis, and a Jetta VIN number!

So, what if I purchased a used 2008 Jetta instrument cluster and mated it with parts from my old Passat instrument cluster to make a kind-of FrankensteinJettaPassat cluster ... with an Immo? ... hmmm! Doesn't matter if the Immo works, I've already got it disabled in the ECU.

Here's the last scan of today ...

That's a nice looking autoscan, considering how screwed up your car is :D It's nearly as bad as mine!

A question for the general masses - are all MK60 units IMMO4A, and the MK60EC1 IMMO4C?

Geoffzie, suspect you may be able to trick it by making a franken-cluster, but MAKE sure the wiring pins are the same first  I know nothing about the Passat clusters, but I fitted the Golf R32 cluster innards into my Touran cluster housing - the outer case is different, but fits directly over matching shaped internals - I had to add some tactile switches, because the Golf uses buttons, and the Touran uses little knobs, but the tracks and holes were all there. Hope fully it's as easy for you!

NZDubNurd, actually the scan really DOES reflect how the car runs ... GREAT! I've got about 5000 miles on it now ... and all of the issues seem to be resolved, and everything works as it should, EXCEPT ... the ABS! I guess that's what's so frustrating ... to be so close to the end ... and yet so far! It's been 8 months of "challenges"!

Although, to be honest, MOST of the challenges have been pre-existing issues with the car or engine: headliner, peeling paint from switches and knobs, broken springs, broken headlight, rusty hood and fenders, bad rear calipers, bad PCV, etc.

If I were to do this swap again (can you say NEVER!!!) ... there are so many shortcuts that I see NOW.

A few examples:

1. Make a wiring harness to incorporate ALL the wiring changes in ONE harness!
2. Re-do the ABS braking system ...while the engine and the transmission are OUT of the car!
3. Buy ALL of the Jetta parts needed from ONE car ... at ONE time!
4. etc, etc, etc ...

Ah, if I had known from the beginning ... what I know now!

Go to Installation list in 19-Can Gateway and uncheck 25- Immobilizer , then Save new coding and see what will happen.

Actually, Jetta, 97 I had tried that ... but I was still getting the fault in Address 03: ABS Brakes: "00474 - Control Module for Immobilizer 004 - No Signal/Communication". I would clear the fault, but it would just come right back.

Maybe I have to try again and do a complete driving cycle?

By the way NZDubNurd, it's good to know that someone else has created a FrankenCluster!

OK, so why even after I uncheck "Immobilizer" in the CANbus ... does "Address 25: Immobilizer" still show up in the Auto-Scan? Is there somewhere else that "Immobilizer" has to be unchecked?

When I unchecked "Parking Brake" ... that category disappeared from the VCDS scan.

I think I've finally convinced the Passat ... that it's REALLY a Jetta now!

Good news and bad news ...

I purchased a used 2008 Jetta Mk5 Instrument Cluster (1K0-920-974-J) with the HighLine MFD. It was somewhat damaged (plastic lens was broken out) but I got it cheap ($32), and it's returnable. I just wanted to see what would happen if I just installed an entire Jetta Mk5 Instrument Cluster.

It worked! All the indicator lights; Turn Signals, High Beam, EPC, Check-Engine, Cruise, Tach, Speedo, and MFD seemed to work OK ... with the exception of the Temp. Guage and Gas Guage ... not sure if they were damaged (since the lens was broke) ... or there's a wiring issue. Also, the EPB light wouldn't work, obviously, the Jetta doesn't use an EPB ... I'll have to look at the wiring.

But the most important thing ... THE ABS WORKED!

I ran through all the basic settings for the ABS and Steering ... then I drove the car and the ESP light went out the first time I applied the brakes! The BAD news is, the MFD lit up with a message "Immobilizer Active!" ... and instead of the mileage showing in the MFD, there was a "SAFE" message at the bottom. Also, the clock was flashing off and on, although it worked.

I then tried using the rear printed circuit board from the Jetta cluster (that's where the Immo is located) with the Passat Instrument Cluster ... It bolted right up perfectly but ... NO worky! The MFD display was blank and the Airbag light would come on for the left turn signal! Obviously, VW decided to switch pins around just for the fun of it! (And I see no easy way to fix it)

Looks like the only way this is going to work (baring any unforeseen ideas to use the Passat cluster), is use the entire Jetta Mk5 Instrument Cluster ... but since it mounts somewhat different, and is a slightly different shape ... I'll have to do some modifying to make it look "factory".

Any ideas as to how to "fool" the Immo to turn off the warning in the MFD? The MFD is kind of useless with the warning there, and you can't get rid of it! Since the Immo was disabled in the ECU, the car starts and runs fine though.

Judging from the VCDS scan, I think I've finally convinced the Passat ... that it's REALLY a Jetta now!

I ran a VCDS scan, then cleared all the codes ... Here's what I was left with (Notice under Address 46: Central Conv .... for some reason it's looking for a "Convertible Top" and a "Trailer / Towing Sensor" ... not sure why?) ...

An earlier cluster maybe? that replacement looks to be immo4C???

Earlier ones are more likely 4a, which is easier.

Also, a lower model OR earlier cluster may just have an immo light, and no MFD warning - you could just take the led out then :-) Hahaha!

Keep in mind, the Immo in the Instrument cluster isn't connected to anything (it uses two wires) ... so the Immo warnings are all generated within the cluster because it sees no key. The Immo chip is in the rear printed circuit board, and normally, there are two wires that connect to the key reading coil which surrounds the ignition switch. None of that is present.

I could just have a key made, buy a used reading coil, connect it up, and seal it in a block of epoxy under the dash!

Any ideas as to why I'm getting the following two faults in the Central Conv. Module? ... and why is the date 2000.00.00? ...

I *think* the MFD warning is entirely because there is no Immo comms with your engine ECU (which is immo-off, yes?). Even with a key, you'd still get the warning???

IF you wanted, I think you could get an IMMO4A ECU and Cluster (preferably matching!), and with an EEprom reader, pull the BIN file from th ecu and get the immo SKC - you could then match your own keys! If you got mismatched ecu and cluster, you'd have to pull the SKC from both to be able to match one to the other.

If you got 2 keys, ecu and matching cluster all from one car, you could just swap your key blades with the new key ones, and it'll all ALREADY BE matched! You'd need the immo reader coil though.

Simplest though - different clocks, smash or tape immo symbol :D You can just leave it blinking too - no drama - then the MIL light can have company next time is awake. I'm pretty sure it'd work.

Next... How do you retrofit that convertible roof??? BIG> :D

I may just reinstall the Passat instrument cluster until I can figure this out. I would REALLY like to use a modified Passat cluster because the Jetta and Passat clusters are enough different that it would be a MAJOR pain to get the Jetta cluster to look "factory".

I DID find the immobilizer chip on the Jetta cluster back board (it's a Megamos EM4093-001 chip) ... and I found the place where it normally would go on the Passat cluster back board. But it would be a MAJOR soldering job to graft the Immo (and related smaller chips) onto the Passat board ... and THEN I don't even know if it would work (coding and programming?)

(I was going to post images of them, but apparently I can't)

At least I know the following now ...

1. The MK60 ABS pump WILL work with this car
2. The ABS pump is wired correctly
3. I know precisely why it wouldn't code (Immobilizer)
4. The ESP unit that I installed and wired is OK (I could turn the ESP off and on)

I'll have to ponder on this for a while.

No it will not work ,
It is not just this ,main thing is Software , Passat and Jetta software is way to different.

I think your best options MED17 + ABS MK60EC1 from 2010 Passat .

Honestly Jetta 97, I'd sell the car before I went through all THAT again! You want to buy my car and finish it?
